om Don 't let our boys and Scugog Tana News by Mrs. Earl Reader The Cubs and Beavers had a fine banquet on Saturday evening with parents. They wish to thank 'grace' U.C.W. for a lovely meal and Joel Aldred for the gift of required milk. Now we have some sad news for the boys. Leaders Beth Heayn, Patricia Pogue and Linda Jeffrey are re- signing this year. They have done a terrific job but the time comes, for many reasons, when ft must be passed on to someone else. So, par- ents, if you wish your boys and girls to have this kind of leadership next year, you must think about taking your turn. District Comm- issioner Bev. Brown is still waiting for help with the girls. There was to be a Training Session in April. Lyle Chatten entered the car Derby and won over the Pine Ridge dis- trict for the best original boy car. Then he went on to the Regional Finals. Congratulations Lyle. Parents, don't let our boys and girls down in the Scout and Guide movement or in Sunday School. Congratulations to Betty and Nelson Reader who have welcomed their first grandchild, Gene Cal- ista when their daughter, Janet and husband of Belleville presented their infant daughter. On Wednesday evening, the members of the "Head" U.C.W. celebrated their 35th Anniversary by a bus trip to the Cullen Gardens for dinner and an evening view of the grounds with the thou- sands of daffodils, tulips and pansies. We were sorry not to have Marion Hughes who had to go to Sunnybrook for treatment and Mabel Strong who entered hospital the previous day. Otherwise most members were able to attend. We returned to the home of Bonnie Gerrow for a business meeting when arrangements were made for Pioneer Days at he Museum in 2 weeks. In appreciation of the showing of the late Edna McLean's paintings and her interest in Missions and the Church, a sum of money was donated to each in her memory. There will be a joint U.C.W. meeting at the church for 5 U.C.W.'s when we'll have a chance to see Allen Martyn's pictures of Australia etc., June 29 as part of our South Pacific study. Members are doing very well in saving grocery tapes to help with the hospital additions. ) We are invited to a special U.C.W. Church Service at Manchester on June 5 at 11:15 a.m. The Family Day Service at the Island United was a very special one when it was :noted that many family groups were present. Miss McLean's Sermon - "Focus on the Family'" was based on Rufus and his mother, from Romans 16:13 and was an excellent study of the family which has 4 essentials of love, play, work and worship. She drew attention to re- sponsibility of time spent with children and love. the privileged child is one who rec- eives these gifts rather than money and mat- erials advantages. We are pleased to hear that Miss Mec- Lean's mother is now home from hospital. People who were recently hospitalized are Mr. Percy Jeffrey, Mr. J. Brake and Mrs. Reta Wilkinson (formerly) of the Island. We trust they are all improving rapid- ly. We are interested in following the travels of David Redman who should arrive in Japan today where he is taking an interesting course in Japanese Agriculture. The Official Board of the Scugog Pastoral Charge must not forget the important meeting at Manchester on Mon- day, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. when there will be a study for our future Ministry after June 30, 1983. Some thoughtful decisions will have to be made. The Island United Sunday School has dropped attendance since Christmas tho' the staff is present and goes thro' the same amount of work and keeps a quantity of materials for use. They would still appreciate the donation "of a play pen and turn- stile record player. It was just brought to our attention that the Jeffrey family gets more than its share of physical and health problems. Bill Jeffrey has been unable to work since Feb. and has to undergo many tests etc to correct his problems. His wife, Linda, has an ailing father. Perc. Jeffrey just nicely re- turned from hospital after surgery and stroke when his wife, Dorothy experienced a nasty fall. This family certain- ly needs your concern and prayers.
