Cawker Blue Ray News Several members from the Cartwright area were on hand for the special night held on Thursday, May 12, in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry, when Matrons, Patrons, and Associates representing "The Garden of love year 1982-83" was hon- oured. The Worthy Matron Joyce Taylor and Worthy Patron Sam Cawker extended a "fraternal" welcome to the honoured guests, and the matron present- ed the ladies with a white rose and the patron presented the gents with a picture. It was a pleasure to greet Associate Patron Don Dickerson of Fidelis Chapter, North Bay, as well as many other officers and members from out of town. Guests were present from: Aloha, Durham, Whitby, Sunbeam, Fidelis, Sunland and Blue Ray members. After officers retired and Chapter closed a draw on a beautiful afghan and matching cushion - made by the Worthy Matron as her project for the local hospital funds - was drawn. Lucky winner - Assoc. Matron Barbara Mosier of Sunbeam. Re- freshments were served in the lower hall by Elsa Bongard and committee and an informal visit was enjoyed. Tupperware Party Of Interest The girl guides of "Blackstock are having a tupperware party in the Anglican Parish Hall, May 24, at 7 p.m. There bringing in the most out- side orders. Stanley Malcolm Celebrates 90th Birthday The family of Stanley Malcolm honoured their father with an Open House on the occasion of his 90th birthday held on Sunday, May 8, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Nestleton Community Centre. Over 150 relat- ives and friends weére welcomed by - his children - Lawrence and Gwendolyn - Malcolm, Neslteton, Neil and Noreen Malcolm , Black- stock, and Jean and Jim Ottawa. His twelve grandchildren attended except for 'Laurie Malcolm of i. 3% Banff, Alberta. All seventeen great grand- children were present to enjoy this memorable event. The attractive tea table was centred with a large beautifully decorated Birthday cake, created by Arlene Malcolm. Arrange- ments of blue candles, white mums and yellow tulips graced the tea tables. Granddaughter Mary Lou Kellogg served the Birthday Cake to the guests. The Nestleton U.C.W. pre- pared and served the delicious lunch. On display were many cards, photos, flowers "and gifts including scrolls from Governor General Schreyer, Prime Minister Trudeau, Premier Davis and Township of Scugog. During a short pro- gram an adapted version of "Grand- father's Clock' was sung by great grand- children, Heather, Alison, Kingsley, and "Joshua Malcolm. This was followed by an address on behalf of Nestleton United Church of which Stanley is an Honorary Elder, read by Ralph Sadler and the presentation of a plaque by U.C.W. Pre- sident Mrs. Norman Mairs. Stanley made a fitting reply and ably expressed his apprecia- tion to all. He was de- - lighted to see so many relatives, friends and neighbours present on this happy celebration. After a warm welcome by Pres. Mrs. Norm Mairs, the meeting was opened by a hymn and a poem. Fourteen members were present and 2 guests. 'The worship period was ably con- ducted by Mrs. Arnold Garden of love reps honoured Williams using for her theme - "The Forgiving Business". Mrs. Ralph Sadler read two pass- ages of Scripture. This part of the meeting closed with the singing The Lord's Prayer and the Three-Fold Amen. Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm was organist. Mrs. Cathy Bourque of Oshawa, Program co- ordinator of Durham- dale House at Pickering - "Community Resource Centre' gave a indepth look into the work carried on there by her interesting presentation and slides. Durhamdale House was established in 1978 and is a new concept, providing a home type of environ- ment for men brought in from Whitby jail - wait- ing to be sentenced. Residents are employed and leave under escort to parks, handling main- tenance work - painting, putting up picnic tables and so on. They are responsible for main- taining gardens as well. To be employed gives the men a feeling of self worth. Many types of sports are part of the program carried out at the Centre too. The speaker was thanked by Mrs. Ralph Sadler for her present- ation of interest. During business the Spring Smorgasbord was finalized. Bibles will be purchased for S. School students. An invitation was rec'd from Blackstock at attend their luncheon May 31st at 1:30 p.m. in the Christian Education room. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Martha Veldhuis of Dundas - her topic will be Horti- culture. . } Meeting closed with Benediction. The wedding was held at South River on Saturday afternoon - later the dinner and reception were enjoyed at the banquet hall with a dance after.
