COMMISSIONER OF WORKS HOLIDAY WEEKEND Fibre Artists will display at by Faye Sanderson The May 9th meeting of the Scugog Shores Fibre Artists was held in the log cabin at the Island Museum. Eleven members were present. Topics discussed were our participation in Pioneer Days and the Port Perry Fair. At both of these events, our members will be dem- * onstrating such interest- ing skills as weaving, spinning, rug hooking, quilting and knitting - usually with natural Pioneer Days fibres. Also, we talked about our enjoyable' and in- formative day 'at a weaving and spinning seminar in Greenwood, Ontario, April 30th. During this meeting the antique loom in the log cabin was prepared for demonstrating weaving to the visitors at Pioneer Days and to the many school children who will be touring the museum grounds this spring and fall. Warn boaters of cold water "The Ontario Sailing Association gives a precaution to small craft sailors and boaters that the lakes and rivers of Ontario in May and ear- ly June are extremely cold and again, in late Fall. Many boating fatalities, at this time of year, are not nécessarily due to drowning, but rather from HYPOTHERMIA. This is the effect of cold water on the body temperature. It takes only a few minutes in cold water to make the body immobile and within 10 to 15 minutes the dangerous effect of Hypothermia begins to lower the body temperature. to a dangerous level, bring- ing on unconsciousness. Each boater should, therefore, take the following precautions when going forth at this -« time of year: _* Do not sail alone, but VIDEO DISC PLAYER Enjoy longer rental at a terrific price! THIS FRI. When you find yourself in it, at this time of year, it is another world. * When sailing on large boats, a safety harness and wet suit should be us- ed and life rings should be available for man overboard rescues.
