Malcolm McFarlane did some- thing positive about it. He announced to his grown family and numerous grand- children that he was going to spend the next five months crossing Canada on foot. His only companion would be a pack on his back and he would re-visit the places he remembered as a fifteen year old lad in 1925. There was but one small hitch which did not deter him one bit. He lived four thousand miles away in Scotland and he was entering his seventy third year of life. He certainly startl- ed Bruce and Jean Mountjoy last Tuesday when he appeared at their door introducing himself as Mr. Mec- farlane from Scotland and he was inquiring about a certain Mount- joy residence south of Blackstock where he would tent that night beside a creek in a beautiful stand of cedar trees that he had helped Luther Mountjoy cut into Hydro poles in 1929. This was also the same year as the first paved road was constructed to the south of Blackstock. He landed at Malton air- port the previous Thurs- day and had walked almost every step of the way to Blackstock spending five nights in his fly-proof tent the previous night being in Durham Forest. With a bit of arm twisting he relented on his rend- ezvous among the cedars and.accepted a inthe REMBRANDT ROOM As part of our 1st Anniversary Celebrations of the "Catharina Lounge" we're offering FULL COURSE DINNER SPECIALS Your Choice of Mouth-watering Veal - Steak - Fish - Pork Of course, we always look after the children. As yet he hasn't found any former acquaint- ances at Blackstock from the 1929 era but he will be back one of these days to pick up his seventy pound pack and continue his trip with his diary and camera and even a jug of pure water from his favourite Scottish stream. Good luck Malcolm Me- Farlane if we were just a bit younger and half as energetic we would love to pack our sack and go along just as you would have a wee bit of com- pany.
