Or until | cheat... Gorgeous, huh? This picture was taken one day during a fantasy | was having about being taller, leggier, bustier, and generally more beautiful than | am now. Also with longer hair. And able to drink Sprite that isn't dietized. Maybe with the help of 20- Minute Workout I'll stand a chance of looking like this snap. But maybe not. sins inland Week one: six pounds! by Cathy Robb Grunt, grunt. "Four more,' "Three more." Wheeze, heave. Right now I'm not sure which is worse, being ad- dicted to 20-Minute Workout or taco flavoured tortilla chips. Since I've gone the way of the Big D, I've been forced to give up those delightful breath-stinking crun- chies in favour of sit-ups and carrot sticks. "Two more." Stretch, reach. **Now take it to the right," The ladies I work with (disgustingly thin, all of them) have been yabbering about a TV show called 20-Minute Workout for the past few months. They'd talk about its wondrous aerobic exercises and I'd snuffle away to myself about how silly women are, to actually do jumping jacks in front of the boob tube. (I have crazy memories of musclebound Ed Allen doing bust exercises in the tropics and chattering inane- ly to his TV audience. **You look good today, Alice, even with curlers in your hair. Stretch, Martha, stretch those elbows. Keep it up girls.") So like I'said, I've always been rather sceptical (to say the least) about videoland workouts. Acutally I'm rather sceptical about any kind of workout. Frankly, I've always thought exercise stunk. Especially when I had to do it. But here I am on the Big D, getting up every morn- ing to do 20-Minute Workout. What am I, crazy? "Take it to a jog." Sweat, curse. 'Push it up, punch it out. Four more." Yes, crazy. I've finally had it up to my double chin with being fat and have opted to join the skinny ranks of health-conscious people who exercise regularly and watch what they eat. It's been a week and already I've lost six pounds. Without giving up corn-on-the-cob, chicken stew, or homemade macaroni and cheese. I've been eating sensible, regular meals three times a day and still losing excess baggage. The trick, I think, is giving up french fries, Coke and taco flavoured tor- tilla chips, enjoying a healthy balanced diet of everything that's mentioned in Canada's Food Guide: and exercising my buns off. For someone who hates exercise, 20-Minute Workout is the best show on television. It's on four times a day, at 7a.m., noon, 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. and features 20 solid minutes of aerobics guaranteed to give you a maximum workout in a minimum amount of time. A variety of gorgeous young women lead you through a series of aerobic exercises (designed to work out the body's most important muscle, the heart) to a rhythmic disco beat that forces your feet to keep up with what's going on in TV-land. Their voices, sweetened with a sensuous twang, urge you on, to keep jogging right through the commer- cials (it's the only time I feel silly -- straining and sweating in front of a blurb for dish detergent). "Now cool it down." Four more. Three more. "Stretch to the right. Push it to the left. Push it out." It's all very addictive, and a lot of fun to boot. I honestly look forward to my morning workout and the occasional six o'clock workout as well, because I think this time I can do it. I have a feeling that this time I'm going to take it all the way and lose the pounds that have been hanging around far too long. I've lost six and have many to go. Gulp. Borelians plan wine and cheese function How does a little wine, alittle cheese and a lot of socializing on a Saturday night sound? Sounds good? If it does, then plan to attend the Borelian's annual wine and cheese party September 17 in Town Hall 1873. You don't even have to be a member to join in the fun. According to Borelian President Sandra Blakney, anybody with any kind of interest in theatre is more then welcome to drop by and say hello. "We do like to have anyone who is interested in any aspect of the theatre," she explained. "It's a chance to meet new people, find out what their interests in theatre are, but mainly it's a social time." Also scheduled is some impromptu entertain- ment, a few skits just "to get the season going and get everybody in the PORT PERRY LIONS CLUB TURKEY SHOOT LOCATION: West of Aldred's Store on Scugog Island on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th 10:00 a.m. mood." The party starts at 8 p.m. and will continue until midnight ("at least," Mrs. Blakney said). She recommends casual dress, anything as long as it's comfortable. '""'We're very infor- mal," she adds. "We're more like a family than anything else, we work so hard together. Most people feel like that about the Borelians.™ Happy 80th birthday, Alan Mr. Alan Chapman of Caesarea celebrated his 80th Birthday with friends at his Caesarea home on September 11th, 1983.
