This last Sunday was an interesting day at the Island United when vacationers and Sunday school children returned to swell the numbers in the classes. There were a few new ones and more will be welcome. Rev. Donald Tansley conducted a Baptism Service when Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lunel in Conc. 10 area presented their two little girls, Emmi Aileen and Anna Lisa for Baptism. On behalf of the congregation, they were welcomed by Eliza Fralick. As the Island United is closed for a week for special attention and improvement, it will again be ready for Service, Sunday, Sept- ember 25. After the Church Service there will be Open House in the Sunday School when parents are invited to visit the Sunday School area to view the teach- ing equipment and supplies, talk with the SEPTEMBER ... The Friendship UCW will meet Wednesday, September 14 at 1 p.m. - at the home of Mrs. Wendy Gerrow. There will be a Bible Study with reference to marriage. It sounds like an interesting study for young married women. All Island ladies are welcome. ) On Wednesday evening the 'Head' UCW met at the home of Pat Fulcher at Gerrow's Beach with 18 ladies present including Mrs. Eastwood as a guest from Whitby. After an opening hymn the roll call was taken when we were requested to state why we attend church, this being an appropriate thought in view of the recent visitation. The study was on a course to help us share the Faith in speech. Irene Carter read a letter describing the new facilities of the current hospital addition and request for our support in all endeavours. She had also received appreci- ation from an Oshawa grade 7 for help and refreshments when they 176 Perry St., Port Perry 985-2532 Shampoo and blow dry included. OPEN 6 DAYS A WEEK! This just gives you 2 weeks to order your tickets or even less if you want to get in. There are several other private services to perform but starting into October, the public is reminded and invited to the Annual Harvest Home- Old fashioned Church Service at the Museum Church which is the former white "Head Memorial" Church on the Island. The guest speaker will be the renowned Dr. Matthew Dymond, former medical doctor, Politician, Minister of Health, speaker and general good friend and benefactor to every one. Of course, we couldn't get along without the musical geniuses in the Lake Scugog Historical Choir. Then we finish the evening with the traditional refresh- ments and social hour. So be sure to keep this date open. If you have company give them this extra treat. After the above dis- cussions and plans plus several others, Jan Gerrow brought joy and relaxation with a very comic reading followed by an abbreviation con- test. Of course, lunch and visiting after the long summer break brought the evening to a close. It is noted that used stamps and grocery tapes are now being turned in. Now it's time for the Women's Institute to get started. Due to a pro- gram change, the Sept- ember meeting of the Island group will be on "Computers." This is an opportunity for any interested Island women to come out and visit for the evening at the Scugog Island Community Hall, Sept- ember 21 at 8 p.m. The Computer age is here now! What does the future mean for us? It's time we heard from the organizations of the Island children. So registration for the girls and boys will be at the Island Hall, Sept- ember 21 and Sept- ember 22 between 7 and 8 p.m. If you are interested in helping please call Linda Jeffrey or Patricia Pogue. This year Brownies will be led by Ann Learing, Guides the same as last year. They are associated with a new group of Pathfind- ers led by Betty Stein- mueller. The Beavers will be led by Linda Brain and Wendy Ore. The Cubs and Scouts are hoping with all their hearts for a leadership.
