Roy and Harold Mc Laughlin are having a: busy time pitching horseshoes this fall. They participated in the Agricultural Day at the C.N.E. at Kinmount and Port Perry Fairs and the Marigold Festival in Whitby. They have collected many trophies and first prize ribbons to add to their great collection. Congratu- lations. Quite a number of members of the clan attended the Mec- Laughlin Picnic held on Sunday at the Hayden Community Centre. Deb and Ron Vice as presi- dents were in charge of the programme of sports and other events. The prize for the oldest was won by Charlie McLaughlin of Toronto who is 93 years young. Everyone enjoyed hear- ing about the Western McLaughlin Picnic held in early July in Edmon- ton from the folks who had attended. On Saturday night Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mec- Laughlin, Mr. and Mrs. David Kyte and family attended the family shower for Karin and Don Murphy in Tyronne Community Hall. Blackstock Nursery 'School held its first meeting of the school year on Tuesday, Aug- ust 30. The Nursery School equipment was set up. Classes started the week of September 6. There are still some openings. Anyone interested call Dale Muirhead at 986-4868. A committee was set up to plan the October Dance which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29. Martyn opened - the 'meeting with two poems followed by the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. The Fun Fair will be - held on Oct. 18 in Maple _ Grove and a special 'meeting in Nestleton Hall November 9 "It isn't your Nerves". Pat Sleep and Helen Bradburn are to attend a Leaders' course on Oct. 4 "More Sense than Dollars'. A quilting demonstration will be held at the next meet- - ing. Pat Sleep's group was in charge of the pro- grammme beginning withthe 'motto "Never buy what you do not want because it is cheap. It will be dear to you." i Helen Bradburn gave two humorous readings. The special speaker was Mr. John Jenkins from the Royal Bank who gave a very interesting talk on different ways of banking to the cust- omer's advantage.
