October 4, 1983 -- 31 At Port Perry High School Initiation hits niners like a fun load of bricks by Sherrie Casteels Well Rebels, the first month of school is over! (one down - nine to go). And since the weather has been so great, it shouldn't be any pro- blem to wake up in the morning and trot off to school! Besides, we seem to be getting into that old school routine; books, parties, gossip, teachers and more gossip. By now you grade niners should be season- ed High Schoolers, tell- ing all your little friends in R.H. Cornish what fun High School is and that seniors aren't that mean and the school isn't that big! The month of October at PPHS should prove to be a busy one. To start off this busy season our Fundraisers are pro- moting a family portrait offer on October 12,13 and 17. To take advan- tage of this fantastic deal, just purchase a $5.00 coupon (keeping in mind its only 83 days until Christmas) which entitles you to a 8 x 10 colour portrait of your family and friends or others. Additional pictures may be order- ed. All proceeds from the $5.00 coupons go to your student council. To all you aspiring young cartoonists just dying to be discovered, the school newspaper needs your talents. See Chrystal Tremble or Karl Donneral for further details. Right now they're on sale. To top that off, orders for winter jackets will be taken on Tuesday, October 4. This year the jackets will be made of red melton, with white leather stripes on the arms. Options include your name and your favourite school activity, emblazened on the back in white letter- ing. Save your pennies (and dollars!!) and get suited up in the red and white of PPHS. Gotta dash now - more news next week. What's this, leap-frogging in the hallway? You betcha. During initiation day at PPHS, anything (almost) goes. The Shmuck Patrol was there to make sure nothing got out of hand. First these shiner niners had to hold a balloon up with their noses, then they had to squish it with their bodies until it broke. Isn't life wonderful for Grade Nines? That's Todd Beleskey (left) and Nor- man Caird being dutiful for their lord and master, Grade 12 student Dean Stone.
