October 25, 1983 Jeannette Ross of Port Perry has been nominated this year for one of the Women of Distinction Awards, sponsored by the Oshawa YWCA. Mrs. Ross was in- strumental in organizing the Scugog and District Crisis Centre and is the director of that volunteer agency which gives counselling and other services to battered women and victims of sexual assault and abuse. Women from all over Durham Region have been nominated for the Distinction awards Jeannette Ross named for award which are broken into five different categories: the arts; sports; public affairs; community ser- vice; and business; pro- fessional and labour achievements. The winners will be an- nounced at the annual Awards dinner to be held Thursday, November._3, at the Oshawa Holiday Inn, starting with a reception at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Laura Legge, Q.C., first woman treasurer of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Tickets for the dinner are $30 and available at YWCA offices. Hallowe'en party at church Utica & Area News by Vera Brown Anniversary services will be held this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Utica Church with Rev. Edith- Ann McManiman taking the service. There will also be a service at 7:30 p.m. with a former minister, Rev. Ray Ed- wards of Centennial United Church in Oshawa as guest speaker. A social hour will follow the evening service. The Sunday School are holding a Hallowe'en party in Utica Church this Friday at 7 p.m. and the mothers are asked to supply cupcakes. Choir practise at Ep- som Church, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and the Ses-- sion and Stewards will meet at 8:30 p.m. also at Epsom. There will be a euchre in Utica Hall at 8 p.m. on Friday. Congratulations to Jim and Caroline Beelby on the birth of a son on Saturday in Uxbridge Cottage Hospital. The baby's name is Donald Clarence.
