October 25, 1983 Ringette teams ready for brand new season On Saturday Oct. 22, 1983, 17 glowing faces donned the uniforms of the Bruton's I.D.A. Petites to play their first game of the season and won by a score of 7-3. Heather Lawrence opened the scoring un- assisted. Misty Andrews from Nicky Beare and Lisa Levy from Leah Prentice scored in the first period. Heather from Monika Franssen and Lyndsey Dutkevich scored early in the second period. Denna Lovering from Misty and Nicky and then Denna unassisted finish- ed the scoring in. the third period. All girls played well and the new girls certainly did a super job. Give them a few games to learn the finer points and there will be no stopping them. This year's team consists of Heather Lawrence, Christine Mueller, Monika Franssen, Nicole Slack, Michelle Stephenson, Lyndsey Dutkewich, Misty Andrews, Kelly Menzies, Danielle Lally, Amy Parliament, Kim Poppleton, Nicky Beare, Leah Prentice, Kory Prentice. Denna Lovering, Tracy Pelow and Lisa Levy. They are being coached by Mary- Lou Meuller and Paul Pelow. We play our next game on Sunday Oct- ober 30 at 3:30 p.m. in Harmon Park Arena in Oshawa. JUNIORS The Sportsland Juniors opened their ringette season against Woodville at Scugog Arena on Sunday, Oct. 23. The girls all played a real good game and the final score was 5-1 for the Sportsland team. Heidi Meisner scored 3 goals and assisted with 2. The girls on this years Sportsland team are Cheri Coakwell, Denise Tompkin, Heather Muir, Lori Newell, Karyn Raines, Tina Soomre, Heidi Meisner, Natalie Franssen, Dawn Park, Lisa St John and Coleen Scala. The coaching staff are Jim Lawrence, Sue Soaper and Jeannie Muir TWEENS On Sunday, Oct. 23, Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens played their first game of the season against the Oshawa B team coming out with a victory of 9-1. Scoring for the team were Jenny Blanchard with 2, Vicki Schryburt with 2, Kelly Calloway with 4, and Kerri Allen with 1. Assists went to Jenny with 2, Brenda Poirier with 3, Connie Norton with 1, Michelle B with 1, and Rachel Traynor with 1. Although Jackie Durham who played her first game in goal did not have a lot of shots, she did make a couple of nice saves. Two of the new girls Paige Smith Ski swap af Dagmar Dagmar Ski Resort, on Durham Road 23, will hold its annual Open House and ski swap on October 30 from 12 to 5 p.m. The Canadian Ski Patrol is hosting the ever-popular ski swap. Anyone who has ski equipment to sell can drop it off between 11 a.m. and 12 on Sunday. Those requir- ing equipment can pick up some great barg- ains! Complimentary rides on the triple chairlift and refreshments will be available. The Dag- mar ski school and staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have concern- ing the resort and skiing. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, we're in for a "snowier than usual" winter. So, hurry, get ready for ski season and drop by at Dagmar's Open House - everyone is welcome! C.H.S. teams winning C.H.S. is well into the girls' basketball season. The Midget and Juniors both have a 2-win 2-loss record. The Midget record is as follows: Cartwright - 27 - Central 15; Cart- wright 21 - O'Neil - 33; Cartwright 32 - Eastdale - 25; Cartwright - 9 - Donevan - 21. The Junior record is as follows: Cartwright and Joanne Desautels played a good game on defence. Thank you Paul, Marg and Ted! Our next game is on Oct. 29th at 5:30 p.m. at our local arena. See you there! BELLES Port Perry IGA Belles opened their season Sunday evening in Oshawa. Although the teams were of the same calibre, Port came out on the bottom end, 7-6 Their play was strong and willing for the first game. Scoring for the Belles were Janice Jackman 3 goals, 1 assist; Joanne Connors 2 goals, 1 assist; Susan Waite, Kim Garland and Stephanie ~~ Whitehead were also each awarded with an assist. Enthusiasm is strong within the team. We are looking forward to a rewarding season. The Belle's next game will be played in Oak- wood Arena against Mariposa, Saturday at 4:30. Soccer club new president by Edna Templeman The Scugog Youth Soccer Club held its Annual General Meet- ing last Wednesday evening to elect a new executive and to hear reports from the Board of Directors on the . previous years' activ- ities. The meeting was very well attended and a new Board of Directors was elected to handle all areas of the club includ- ing: Treasurer, Spon- sorship, Registration, Equipment, Coaching, Refereeing, Field Main- tenance and Tourna- ments. Alf Huggins was elect- ed President and includ- ed in his comments was a desire to maintain the excellent standards set by out-going President, Colin Dodd. Colin will still be active in the Club in the position of Past President. Bob Ervine was elected Vice-Presi- dent.
