MoJacks Pee Wees win the consolation Dropping their first game to Ernestown, the Legion Pee Wee A's went on to capture the Consolation Champion- ship in the Port Hope Tourney on Sat. Nov. 12th. In the first ten minute period against Ernes- town, our hometown boys displayed excellent team play, resulting in a 3-0 lead. Jarett Harman tucking one in the corner opened the scor- ing assisted by Gros- venor and Mills. Sorley picked the top corner for the second goal after taking a pass at the red line from defenseman Wylie. Playing two short proved costly for Ernestown and Sorley connected for his second goal of the period, with Leatherdale and Maw each assisting on the play. Only 27 seconds had been played in the second when Ernestown Novice Stars nipped by 2-1 On Friday, Nov. 11th, the J.P. Pearce Auc- tioneers hosted the Oshawa Black Hawks- Canadian Tire to play an exhibition game. In the first period the Black Hawks scored the first goal of the game. Port presuming they could sit on this slim lead slackened their pace and soon found themselves in trouble as Ernestown connected for two unanswered goals, thus tying the score. Less than five minutes remained in the game when Toye, with Sorley and Leatherdale assisting once again had the team in the lead, this was short lived as Ernestown went on to score three more in a three minute span, end- ing the game at 6-4. 4-0 Win The second game went in favor of the Legion Pee Wee A's, as they shut out Pickering Hockey Assoc. 4-0. Kett between the pipes was not over worked but made some big saves when called upon. After one com- plete period, The Legionaires had a 2-0 lead on two quick goals by Cornish, with Har- "man assisting on both and Legere drawing a single assist. Coasting along, they increased their lead by one in both the second and third periods, Sorley finding the top left corner connected for the third goal with Toye assist- ing. Gibson positioned in front of the net slammed in the final marker with Sorley and Legere drawing the assist. The Championship game against Port Hope proved no problems for the Legionaires as they - defeated the opposition 7-1. Norris in net for Port Hope made some outstanding saves, but received little in the way of help from his team mates. With end to end play and excellent goal tending from - Norris and McConnell, the Legionaires connected for only one goal in the first period, a back hand shot by Mills on a power play with Maw earning the assist. Each team scored once in the next period, for Port a power play goal by Sorley, from Leatherdale and Toye. Port never relented in the final period as they added 5 more, Maw and Grosvenor each scored their first goal of the (Turn to page 21) by John B. McClelland The Port Perry Mo- Jacks continue to hold down first place in the Central Junior C League as the team had three weekend victories in as many nights and pushed their undefeated streak to 12 games. At the Scugog Arena Sunday evening, Brian Mikkelsen scored his second of the game in the opening minute of the final period to break a 4-4 knot and spark the MoJacks to a come- from-behind 6-4 win over the Port Hope Panthers. Mikkelsen got the game winner when he pounced on a rebound just outside the crease and drilled a wrist shot past Panther goalie Guy Foster. Just two minutes later, Brad Flaxman gave the MoJacks an insurance marker as he converted a nice two- way passing play from Scott Wallace and Wayne Snodden. MoJacks got on the board first at the 5:34 mark of the opening period when John Fusco put Bob Horton into the clear and the classy forward made it look easy as he went to the backhand to stuff the puck behind the Panther goalie. But Panthers scored. three straight goals by the 2:20 mark of the second to open a 3-1 lead. Mikkelsen pulled the team to-within one goal Citing a lack of quality hockey players as the main reason, the Bewdley Rice Lake Rangers have with- drawn from the Central Junior C Hockey League. The Rangers had won just one game so far this season, but had the dubious honour of being the most penalized team in the league. The collapse of the team has created some - confusion in the league and a meeting of team officials is slated for the near future to try and sort things out. According to Port Perry MoJacks manager Murray Parl- lament, some teams in the league want all results (team points and individual scoring points) wiped out from on a two on one break early in the second and then a minute later Glenn McKay tied the score when he jammed in a rebound after the puck had bounced off the cross bar. At 7:15 of the second, Vaughn McKee gave MoJacks a 4-3 lead on a hard shot from the point which seemed to change directions before going through the goalie's legs. But Panthers knotted the score midway through the second on a similar goal which elud- ed netminder Clay Lovering. That set the stage for the two quick MoJack goals early in the third which gave the team the two points. Even though it was the third game in three nights for the MoJacks, Port Perry seemed to enjoy the better of the play. Foster in the Panther net stopped several scoring chances. The victory over Port Hope came hard on the heels of a 7-5 Port Perry win Saturday night over the Merchants in Little Britain. This too was a come-from-behind win as MoJacks fell behind 3-0 in the opening _ period. They went to work in the second -as John Fusco clicked for two and Bob Horton scored a single, and then added four more in the final frame while holding the Merchants to two goals. Club folds the games already play- ed against the Rangers. Such a move would be strongly opposed by the MoJack hockey team who want those points to stand, according to Mr. Parliament. The Mo- Jacks have beaten the Rangers twice so far by large scores which would mean a differ- ence in league standings and individual scoring races. The remaining league schedule will not be altered, but the teams slated to play the Rangers may be award- ed an automatic two points. Rice Lake was in its third year in the Central Junior C loop, and there is virtually no chance the team will be re- admitted to the league next season. excellent, MoJacks grab three weekend wins Horton completed his hat trick with two more goals in the final frame with singles going to Scott Wallace and Rob Nicholson. For the Merchants, Tim Siddle had a pair while singles went to Greg Jewell, Glen Miller and John Mec- Guire. Even though MoJacks- came home with the two points, Little Britain enjoyed a territorial advantage as they fired 48 shots on Clay Lovering, including 18 in the first period. Three of the Merchant goals came on the power play, as MoJacks took 19 penalties. 6-4 WIN MoJacks opened the six point weekend Fri- day night in Uxbridge as they met the Bruins for the first time this season and handed that struggl- ing club a 6-4 defeat. Brian Nicholson, a new recruit from Cann- ington in his first game as a MoJack this season sparked the team with four goals and an assist. Glen McKay got the other goal for Port Perry, while Scott Wallace, Jeff Johnstone and Wayne Snodden each had a pair of assists. It was a fairly clean contest with MoJacks" taking ten minors to nine for the Bruins, who occupy last place in the Junior C loop. The MoJacks continue to hold a slim first place lead over Bowmanville Eagles who defeated Lindsay Muskies 4-3 Sunday night in Bow- manville. That game featured a bench-clear- ing brawl late in the second period and no doubt the league will be handing out suspensions for the incident. Port Perry has 24 points on the strength of 11 wins, two ties and one defeat which occurred more than a month ago on October 9. After the three tough' weekend games, Mo- Jacks will have a week off as the next game is this Sunday evening at the Scugog Arena when the Stouffville' Clippers are the opposition. Face off is 7:30 P.M. If the team can con- tinue to hold first place by the All-Star break on Boxing Day, head coach Gary Elliott will have the honour of coaching the all-stars when they meet Lindsay Muskies, last year's league champions.
