Goals, knowledge can lead to success Seagrave and Area News by Patty Williams 'I'he Seagrave U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Donald Hunter last Wednesday evening. Mildred Puckrin con- ducted the meeting using the theme "The Chang- ing Year' for the devo- tional program. Five of the ladies read a part telling how goals, knowledge, preparation, commitments and resol- utions can help to make a success of the New Year. A verse of the hymn "Standing at the Portal of the Opening Year" was sung after each speaker. An appropriate poem "T" is Winter Now, the Fallen Snow" was read The annual reports in- dicated a very busy and successful year for this small group. Twelve tied quilts made by Mrs. Fishley were given to the Men's Hostel in Oshawa last year and another ten were delivered last week. "February" is birth- day month. The ladies are having a variety supper at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 14th, at 6 p.m. Mens clothing will be collected at the next meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Ellsworth Kennedy. Please continue to save the grocery tapes for the hospital. The congregational meeting will be held at the church this Wednes- day evening Jan. 18th at 7:30 p.m. The official board meeting will be held at Seagrave United Church on Thursday. Jan. 26th at 8:00 p.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sunday, Jan. 29th, at 10 a.m. The Good Neighbours Group will be meeting on Monday, Jan. 23rd at 8:15 at the home of Mrs. Eleanor Sturman. 3 Mothers of Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and Guides, please take note that a meeting will be held Jan. 24th.at 7:30 at the home of Martha Volman. Besides re- establishing the Mother's Auxiliary, for the Seagrave area, there are many items to be discussed. Fundraising projects, phone commit- tees and sewing commit- tees are some of the areas of high priority. If your child is involved in any of the above groups, please attend and lend your support. At the present time an . assistant is needed to help Scout leader, Dan Volman with his troop. Please call him at 985-2473 if you can help out. On Saturday Jan. 14th, the Royal Bank Curling Bonspiel was held in Port Perry with 4 Seagrave area couples taking part. - Betty and Len Somer- ville and Anne and Reg Winfield enjoyed the day's activities. Last Tuesday the '""Head" UCW executive met at the home of Pat Henshaw to plan dates for the year's activities as well as other changes in prices and notable items. This Thursday at 8 p.m., there will be an important meeting of the Scugog Pastoral Charge at the Island Church. This includes elders, stewards and heads of all organiza- tions. This is being call- ed by the Pastoral Relations Committee pertaining to future Ministry. Then by Jan. 30 all reports must be printed and in order for an Official Board meeting of the Scugog Pastoral Charge to review the financial situation. About 30 people met Sunday afternoon in the Port Perry United Church to represent a cluster of 7 churches to get more information on the V.I.M.(Ventures in Mission) project. Some donations have already been made to support 3 phases of the United Church across Canada. You will all be better informed this coming Sunday.
