22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. Janvary 31, 1984 In tournament at the Oro Arena Port Juniors reach the finals Port Perry Sportsland Juniors travelled to Oro Arena for a weekend tournament. Their first game Sat. Jan. 28 was against Oro Juniors. Although they were defeated 2-0, Port play- ed a good strong game and fought until the end. Heather Muir played well in net for Port Perry. Our second game Sportsland. got off to a flving start against Stayner. Denise Tomp- kins made a nice pass to Heidi Meisner who was first to get on the score board. Colleen Scala then passed the ring to Karyn Raines who set this goal up for Heidi again. Stayner also got two goals in this first period. Going into the second half with the score tied, the pressure was on but Colleen got possession of the ring and shot to Heidi who put in her third and winning goal of the game. Sportsland came off beaming with a 3-2 win. Sun. morning we set out for Oro Arena again. Our team competitors were from Elora. This was a nerve racking game for manager Jeannie Muir and coach Jim Lawrence and for our Port Sportsland players too. Elora opened the scor- ing and then Port took over when Lori Newell gained possession and passed to Lisa St. John who passed to Heidi and was able to set in one of her fast goals. Natalie made the next pass to Sherri Harris who shot in a second for Port. Elora was able to slip a couple of rings in net and then we went back to the other end. Sherri passed the ring to Karyn and on to Heidi who with her trick wrist placed our third in net. Colleen then made a pass to Sherri who set Heidi up for another point. Elora gained possession and got two fast goals. As this was neck and neck all the way we had to keep the speed going so Heidi chalked up another being set up by Tina Soomre and Sherri. Elora placed the ring in our net and then Karyn made a pass to Tina who went on to Heidi and scored one more. Colleen and Natalie set Heidi up who knew the right corner to shoot the ring in. Elora retaliated 'with two more goals. The end of regulation time the score was tied 8-8.
