A cal- endar of events was made up, membership prices were set and trail permits were available for purchase. The season was ready to start! By December, our membership consisted of 46 families. Our annual "Earlybird Membership Draw' of a 12 1b. turkey was won by Don and Anne Levac of Scarborough. On January 7 and 8 CORSA held its annual two day ride. This year members snowmobiled to Apsley. Approximate- ly 19 riders travelled the well groomed trails. A very enjoyable time was had by all who partici- pated in the ride. January also saw a new executive for the Dynos. Keith Brown took over as President from Barry Rohrer. udrey Brown became new secretary, as J Wilkinson decided it was time to retire. However, June didn't retire for too long as she decided to put her talents to use and accept a position on Enftertain- ment. Fred Cockerton is our new Vice-President, taking over from Warren Rohrer. On January 15th, about 53 members of the Cartwright Dynos snow- mobile club enjoyed a Pot Luck supper in the Nestleton Hall. Chili, buns, hot apple cider, cake and coffee provid- ed a most delectable and appetizing meal. The club provided the meal this year, giving the women a break from the kitchen and allowing them to enjoy the rally. Proceeding the supper Midget playoffs return to Port The Midget "a'g" will be playing their second game of the playoffs against Uxbridge, Thursday night Feb. vth in Port at 8:00 p.m. and back in Uxbridge Sun- day Feb. 12th at 7:15 was our annual Poker Rally. This year, we had 43 riders. Near perfect weather conditions allowed everyone to enjoy themselves on the ride. Our winners for the Poker Rally were J. Clayton Smith of Little Britain with the best hand for adult, and Fred Cockerton Jr. of Caes- area having the best hand for seventeen and under. Following the ride and supper, the Dynos assembled for a general meeting with 30 people present. Presi- dent Keith Brown pre- sided for the meeting and minutes were jread by Secretary Audrey Brown. Treasurer Pete Mantel reported the finances of the club in good standing. Pam Rohrer reported there are now 63 members with applications still being taken. Any local snowmobilers interest- ed in joining the club, can contact Rohrer at 986-5467. Entertainment was pro- vided by Vern Assel- stine. He showed a very interesting video on Yamaha snowmobiles. The club wishes to thank Vern for making the meeting a very enjoy- Pam. aa ERE able one. Free Dyno t- shirts were given out at the end of the meeting for all the children who participated in the rally. On Sunday, January 22, we held a day for the kids at the bus, where they could take their sleds and have a good time. This was an impromptu outing arranged at the Pot Luck supper after the Poker Rally. The stove was lit inside the bus to warm everyone up, and Fred Cockerton started the barbecue outside to cook the hot dogs. Approximately 25 people were present. Because of the great response, the club will work this into its cal- endar of events for next year. Anyone who is a club member, is welcome to use these facilities at any time. All that is asked is that you clean up after. Snowarama was held in Port Perry on Sun- day, January 29, with approximately 165 riders. Thanks to all who either participated by riding, or by helping to set-up and organize the Snowarama. February will consist of Dyno Games Day on Fitzgerald. Jan. 28th by defeating Newmarket 8-1, The Oshawa Dines 2-1 and Nobleton 6-4, The Legion Pee Wee A's captured the Champion- ship in their home tourney. For the first two periods Newmarket put up a good battle. Their goalie made many excellent saves, but received little help from his team mates. The Legionaires had a 8-1 lead after the first they added two more in the second, Newmarket spirit lagged in the third while Port continued rolling along increasing their lead to 8-1 before the final buzzer sound - ed. The line of Mills, Gibson and Fitzgerald accounted for four of the eight goals. Fitzgerald had 1 goal 2 assists; Mills 2 goals, 2 assists; while Gibson had 1 goal, 3 assists. Cornish and Harman had 1 goal, 1 assist each. Sorley and Toye one goal apiece, Rodway 1 assist, Maw 2 assists. Paul Kett did an excellent job between the pipes. The second game against the Oshawa Dines was a thriller right down to the final whistle. Chris in net played absolutely fan- tastic, with the highlight of the game coming in the final minutes of play when he came out to challenge on a break- away, robbing Oshawa of the tying goal. The only goal of the first period came from Mike Sorley after taking a pass from J.D. Rodway. Port's only problem of the game came in the second when Oshawa took advantage of their inability to clear the puck from their own end. Before the period ended, Mike Toye had Port in a 2-1 lead again on a nifty passing play from Mike Sorley and Chris Legere. The Legion Pee Wee A's proved their deter- mination to win as they nipped Nobleton 6-4 for the Championship. Nobleton scored from the opening face off and it appeared that Port might be in trouble, but a beautiful passing play from goalie McConnell to Toye to Sorley had the game evened out. The Legiongires jumped into a 2-1 lead on a goal by Clair Cornish from Eric Grosvenor and Jarett Harman. A power play goal from the blueline by Cornish his second of the game opened the scoring in the second, Fitzgerald and Gibson drew assists. Nobleton were not to be forgotten as they popped one behind McConnell, making it 3-2. J.D. Rod- way having a super game took a pass from Mike Sorley and slipped one between the goalies legs, only seconds later Rodway scored his second of the game un- assisted. Nobleton made it 5-3 before the comple- tion of the period. With only 14 seconds remain- ing in the game Noble- ton struck once more and with six attackers it appeared the game might end in a deadlock forcing overtime, but Harman picking up a loose puck neatly tucked away the final goal. To our defensemen, Legere, Maw, Popple- ton and Leatherdale who seldom get their names mentioned on assists, you were great. John David Rodway was presented with a plaque for the M.V.P, of this game from Mr. John Christie represent- ing the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419. Mr. Christie also pre- sented the Champion- ship Trophy to captain Daryl Leatherdale who accepted on behalf of the team. Atoms lose 3-2 in first match On Friday, Feb. 3 the Malmont Farms Atoms opened their playoff round on a losing note dropping a 3-2 decision to Stouffville. It was an action pack- ed game with both teams getting lots of scoring chances. Port opened the scoring in the first period when Jason Cochrane scored with Brett Puckrin and Mike Feasby getting assists, Stouffville then jump- ed out in front 2 to 1 early in the third but Mark Andrews tied it up again with assists going to Greg Fitzgerald and Steve Laird. Port could not hold back a strong Stouffville team and Stouffville scored the last goal to end it 3 to 2. Port's next playoff game is Friday, Feb. 10 8:00 at home against Uxbridge. od _ i rE aan SELL LL aE a. oo I
