Ralph married former Miss January 27, 1934 was an auspicious day in history for the former Miss Vera Miller and Mr. Harold Honey. It was the day this happy couple ex- changed their marriage vows at the Peoples Church in Toronto with the Rev. Hunter of- ficiating. The attendants on this occasion were Mrs. Kathleen Hopgey who acted as matron-of- honour and Mr. Morley Honey who performed the duties of groomsman for his brother. Follow- ing their marriage, Vera and Harold took up residence at Honeyvale Farm, Honey's Corners, where Harold became a very succesful farmer while his wife was employed for a period of time at the law office of Mr. Thos. Harris in Port Harold and Vera were delighted with the ar- rival of their first child Helen, and they were later blessed with the ar- rival of a son, Ralph. Helen was destined to become a Registered Nurse and married Mr. Jack Green. They are residents of Blackstock with their five children. Harold and Vera eventually were presented with six more grandchildren making a total of eleven to love and spoil. : Harold was a very ac- tive participant and member on the Port Perry Fair Board, while Vera has remained a popular and hard- working member of the Honeydale Women's In- stitute for several years. They both remain quite active in other facets of community life. On Saturday, January 27, 1984, this well-known and charming couple were honoured by their family on the occasion of their 50th wedding an- niversary. The celebra- tion took place at the Church of the Ascension Parish Hall in Port Perry, commencing with a delicious hot dinner followed by an afternoon of visiting and reminisc- ing - with close family members. Acting as M.C. for this occasion was Mr. Jack Green and their son Ralph, per- formed the duties of toastmaster. Ralph call- ed upon his nephew John Green to propose a toast to the grandparents on behalf of the grandsons, and his daughter Heather Honey, propos- ed a toast to the grand- parents on behalf of the - granddaughters. Guests attending this very memorable day were- Dr. Ralph Honey, Peter- borough; Mrs. Mary Hardy, Port Perry; Mrs. Reta Higgs, Oshawa; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Green and Family; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Honey and Family, as well as nieces and nephews of Vera and Harold. Special wishes and greetings were received from Prime Minister Trudeau; Premier Wm. Davis; Gov.-Gen. Ed- ward Schreyer; Twp. of Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor, as well as cards and gifts from many of Couple celebrate 50th anniversary their relatives, neighbours and close friends. Sunderland Lions festival gearing-up 'for another year by Pat Holton The 27th annual Sunderland Lions' Club Music Festival will be opened Thursday, February 16th at 9:00 a.m. by Mayor McPhail. The festival will close Friday afternoon, February 24th. Music Festival entries closed with an increase of 300 entries over 1983. There is a total of 1,046 entries made up of 485 Vocal in 63 classes, 309 Instrumental classes, and 252 piano in 24 classes. This dramatic in- crease reflects the strong support that Sunderland Lions' Club continue to receive from the Boards of Education, Teachers and Parents throughout the area. Piano classes will lead off on February 16th and 17th with three sessions each day. Brock High School Auditorium will be the setting for the "Big Band Night"' Thursday, February 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. This is always a great musical ex- perience with a fine spirit of competition. In Kinder- garten, Grades 1, 2 and 3 the language of instruction is French. A full English Language Arts program is introduced in Grade 4. In successive grades, about half the subjects are taught in English and half in French. Applications are being accepted from parents whose children are eligible to attend Kindergarten in September, 1984. Please contact the Principal of the nearest school offering the French Immersion program by February 15, if you are interested in enrolling your child. Please note that transportation to and from French Immersion classes is the responsibility of the parents except where students can reach the French Im- mersion classes by using regularly scheduled school bus routes.
