~dhog | | | 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 14, 1984 Mild temperatures provide glimmer of hope Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock < Although Mr. Groun- predicted another six weeks of winter on Feb. 2nd, the very mild prev. few days provide us with a glimmer of hope that just maybe spring might indeed be just around the corner but alas, Old Man Winter retains his reputation for being a very fickle fellow, so time will tell, I guess. Seagrave and Sonya residents were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of a very popular and community minded citizen- Mr. Fergie Munro of Sonya. We ex- tend our deepest sym- pathy to his wife and family. | The U.C.W. ladies met last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Louella Kennedy with Mrs. Venner taking charge of the devotional Preferred Area of Practice -- CRIMINAL LAW -- Tuesday & Thursday Evenings 630P M & Saturdays LAW OFFICES OF RISEN, ESPEY & FARQUHARSON LORD SIMCOE PLACE Suite 1C- 857 Simcoe St. S., P.O. It was a wonderful ' tribute and I'm sure it will be deep- ly cherished by their parents. We sympathize also with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Durward and family. Joan's father, the late Mr. Leslie of Oshawa, passed away suddenly last week as the result of an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Stanley Venner recently enjoyed spen- ding a few days with her son, John and family in Ottawa. While visiting in the city, they took part in the Winterlude on the Ice festivities featuring beautifully carved ice sculptures as well as the usual winter sports. Congratulations to Roy and Lillian Smith of Port Perry on the arrival of a sweet little grand- daughter, born to their daughter Wendy and hubby. Grandpa and Grandma have ventured down to the East Coast for a few days to get ac- quainted with Miss Bayley Jean (B.J.)! I've been asked by Roy to re- mind the Durward gang and any others who are usually involved that the annual birthday get- together will be held on Feb. 26th. Circle that date folks! An exciting day in February for two hand- some boys in Mariposa Estates -- it was the 13th birthday for Chris Carr and Paul Wylie! The boys celebrated this very auspicious day with a joint party at the Wylie house, complete with' a houseful of other teenagers all eager to make their day a special one to remember. Happy birthday guys! The Beacock boys entertained their cousins Annette and Scott Foster of Port Perry for the weekend while their parents were enjoying the highlights of Toronto. A great way to break the mid-winter blahs! The weatherman un- fortunately was not very co-operative this weekend and we were disappointed that the Parks Board Winter Fun : Day scheduled to be held on Sunday afternoon had to be cancelled but cheer up folks. All is not lost. . They have re-scheduled it to Sunday, Feb. 26th with promises of the same kind of fun and an- tics for folks of all ages. Keep your fingers cross- ed for nice weather! The 26th certainly is shaping up to be a very busy day. The annual Baden-Powell service will be held in the Seagrave Church at 10:00 a.m. then after lunch the Winter Fun Day and there has been some talk of a S.S. skating party that day, as well, but more on it next week perhaps. Tuesday is Valentine's Mark your calendar Day so be sure to treat your special someone to a Pot Luck Supper at the Seagrave United Church, beginning at 6:00 p.m. and it won't be necessary to take a second mor- tgage out on the house to pay for it either -- adults $3.50 and children under 12- $1.00. Just bring along your wife, the kids and your appetite. Paul Wylie recently won recognition as well as $25 for submitting his design of an appropriate logo for a contest spon- sored by the Victoria County Disaster Fund. His first prize submis- sion also netted him an interview on CHEX-TV, as well as being mention- ed in the Lindsay Post Newspaper. Congratula- tions Paul! We're all very proud of you. If this keeps up Paul, we'll have to see about ordering a - larger size ba!l cap for your dadi Seems your parents are pretty happy for you too! If any of the Seagrave or Mariposa ball players have their summer schedules prepared, Roger Boyle would ap- preciate hearing from you as soon as possible. His telephone number is 985-3941.
