The Emmerson's squad from the Port Perry Broomball League captured the B Championship in a tournament held over the weekend in Colborne. After losing their first game, Emmersons went the rest of the way without a defeat and in fact knocked off another Port Perry entry, Oddfellows in the final. (Absent- Tom Powell) Belle-Deb squad comes home with gold medals On Sunday, February 12, the Port Perry IGA Belle-Deb team travell- ed to Kingston to com- pete in a one-day tour- nament. Our first game was at 11 a.m. against Smith Falls. Port dom- inated this game and came out on top by a score of 10-6. Scoring for Port was Rhonda White, 4 goals, 2 assists; Michelle Andrews 1 goal, 3 assists: Cheryl Dohertv and Janice Jackman each with 2 goals, 1 assist; Joanne Connors 2 assists; Kelley Raines 1 goal and Sharon Ash- more, Esther Sternad, Tracey Olsen and Kelly Storry each with one assist. Tracey Olsen was awarded a sportsman- ship medal for this game. We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Waite for lunch at Mc- Donald's! It was good!! Our second game was at 5 p.m. against Whitby this was a close, rough game with Port winning 98. This was a total team effort, with every- one playing well. Scor- ing for Port was Rhonda White 4 goals, 1 assist; Joanne Connes 2 goals, 1 assist; Michelle Andrews and Janice Jackman each with 1 goal, 2 assists; Kelly Storry 3 assists; Cheryl Doherty 1 goal, 1 assist; Stranglehold on series (From page 18) ed away the first goal. Uxbridge retaliated for their first of the game at the 7:57 mark. With 2:30 left in the period, Mike Sorley working the corner fed a pass back to Todd Poppleton on the point, spotting his winger alone in the slot he let go a shot and Leatherdale made no mistake scoring on the open side. Port controlled the third period scoring five goals to Uxbridge's one. Clair Cornish picking up a rebound from Jarett Harman opened the scor- ing at the 11:53 mark, | Eric Grosvenor also' drew an assist. Perseverance behind the net by Kevin Gibson paid off in a goal for Derek Fitzgerald as The Legionaires went ahead 4-1. Jeff Mills and Derek Fitzgerald each drew an PORT PERRY MINOR HOCKEY assist on the goal by Kevin Gibson as they moved the puck around in Uxbridge end. It took only 47 seconds to chalk up two more goals, Clair Cornish picked the bot- tom corner for his second of the game with Jarett Harman assisting, then J.D. Rodway scored on a passing play from Mike Sorley. Sunday, Feb. 12th for the third game in Ux- bridge. The P.P. Legion PeeWee A's shut out their opponents 2-0. It was a close checking match and for the first period and a half it was a goalies dual as McCon- nell and Magee came up with many key saves. The Legionaires took a total of 16 minutes in penalties and the team did an excellent job of keeping Uxbridge off the scoreboard. It was not until the 6:50 mark of the second period when Port finally lit up the scoreboard on a power play, Chris Legere dum- ping the puck to Leather- dale in the corner who fed a pass to Mike Sorley positioned in front of the net. Mike missed on his first attempt, but was able to pickup his own rebound. With only 51 seconds rema in the game, Uxbridge pulled their goalie in favour of six attackers, Jarett Harman picking up the puck after Cornish won the face-off in his own end, shot the puck the length of the ice scoring into an empty net. The fourth game is scheduled for Wednes- day night in Port Perry at 7:30 come out and support the Leg. PeeWee A's. and Tracey Olsen and Sue Waite each getting 1 assist. Our defense lines of Kelley Raines, Sharon Ashmore, Sue Waite, Laurie Parry and Tracey Olsen play- ed well, ad did goalie, Jill Kendall. Jill also received the most sportsmanlike player medal. Thanks again to Mr. and Mrs. Waite for the donuts after this game. This put us into the championship game. We had to play against Whitby again, and this was a totally different game with Port winning 16-7. Scoring for Port was Rhonda White 6 goals, 2 assists; Janice Jack- man 5 goals, 2 assists; Cheryl Doherty 2 goals, 3 assists; Joanne Connors 1 goal, 3 ists; Kelly Storry 1 gaal, 2 assists; Michelle drews 1 goal, {| assist nd Sharon Ashmore ith 2 assists. Marg Marg Petites lose to Oshawa On Sunday, Feb. 12 the Bruton's IDA Petites travelled to Oshawa to play the Oshawa 'A' team. We came home with a loss as we were defeated 9-6. The girls gave an all out effort offensively but they seemed to forget at times to play defense as time and again Oshawa had good chances on goal. Scoring for Bruton's were Lisa Levy 2, Misty Andrews 2, Kelly Menzies 1, and Denna Lovering 1. Assists were picked up by Kelly, Amy Parlia- ment, Monika I ranssen and Nicole Slack. The 8:00 A.M. - Port Perry vs. Whitby 9:00 A.M. - Alliston vs. Port Hope 10:00 A.M. - Oshawa Red Wings vs. Pickering 11:00 A.M. - Mississauga Dixies vs. Kewswick SCUGOG ARENA PORT PERRY other girls on the team played well and all will be out for revenge when we play this team again. Tweens Win On Sunday Feb. 12 the Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens travelled to Oshawa to win 15-3, Scoring for us were Jenny Blanchard 5, Michelle Beare 5, Kelly Calloway 3 and Jackie Durham 2. Assists went to Jenny, Paige Smith and Jackie with 1. Kelly had 2. Oshawa played well but our girls over powered them by far.
