22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 14, 1984 Conditions terrible for the local ice drags Hip waders were more the order of the day for the annual snowmobile drag races on Lake Scugog over the weekend. Mild weather turned the ice on Kent's Bay in- "to what looked like a giant swimming pool causing no end of pro- blems for racers, of- ficials and spectators alike. "The conditions are very bad, probably the worst we've ever seen," said Rick Johns, vice president of the Central Ontario Snow Drag Rac- ing Association, late Sun- day afternoon. Although conditions made the times slow, the tracks were kept in the best shape ble, and Mr. Johns said there was never any question of the event having to be cancelled. ; While the Racing Association sanctions the drags as part of their six- . race winter circuit, the event is organized and promoted by the Port Perry Snowmobile Club whose members put a lot of work into the prepara- tion of the two-day races. Unfortunately, the weatherman failed to co- operate and this had an effect on the number of racers and spectators. Organizers had been Novice takes close victory On Friday Feb. 10 the J.T.
