8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 21, 1984 Merchants welcome Miller time Suds commercial filmed in downtown Port Perry Port Perry, welcome to Miller time. Thirsty selves from all over the Scugog area found the time to gawk at the of a beer commercial in ~ downtown Port Perry early Monday morning. Cars travelling up and down Queen St. slowed so passengers could eye- ball the lights, cameras and action going on between Emiel's Place and Emmerson's Insurance, while curious pedestrians just stopped whatever they were doing to get a closer look. Partners Film Com- pany in conjunction with Caledon Advertising had chosen Port Perry for a winter scene Miller commercial a few weeks ago when there was plenty of snow lin- ing Queen St. sidewalks. Production house pro- ducer Nancy Lee says the group looked at eight different small towns including Ux- bridge, Acton and Elora before settling on Port "It's such a pretty town", she said. "It was perfect for what we had in mind." Although the recent thaw put a damper on the crew's snow scenes, 'Township filming went ahead without it, using the Queen St. sidewalk, Emmerson's Insurance, Sportsland, the Scugog Roads t and the ice huts dotting the lake as backdrops. The 16 or so actors featured in the commercial are filmed getting together for a laugh and a beer after a hard day's work, which includes snowplowing and ice fishing. '""The whole thing about Miller is it's the end of the day and everyone goes for a beer," Ms. Lee explain- ed. Although most of the shooting took place in Port Perry, the cast and crew departed briefly to Markham where the Markham Printing Shop was used as a backdrop. But they were back in Port again today (Tues- day) to finish up. Ms. Lee wasn't sure when the commercial will be aired but it could be on television anytime in the next few months. The commercial isn't the first piece of film to be shot in the area either. Last summer an American adventure production called Cougar! was shot on the shores of Lake Scugog. Episodes of The Littlest Hobo have also been filmed here. Even the late Henry Fonda was in our midst at one time making a TV movie several years ago. "Next stop, Hollywood.
