Roll Call- name a coun- try prominent in the news! The minutes of the last meeting were read, and financial report showing a good bank balance, Mrs. Grace Bassant and Mrs. Jean Car- nochan reported a profit of $228 from catering: at an auction in January. A vote of thanks was tendered these ladies for their efforts. It was voted to donate money to 4-H Club for their work, also to the Epsom fire victims following their dreadful tragedy! We renewed our membership in Scugog Social Planning Council. Our delegate to Of- ficer's Conference in Waterloo in May will be- Mrs. Irene Philip. The district annual is » to be held May 23rd with Shirley W.1. as hostess. A rummage sale is planned for March 8th, at 10:30 a.m. in the Municipa! building. Members are requested to have their contribution in by 9 a.m. Mrs. Dorothy Naples gave an excellent profile of Dr. Ellen McLean, the first A.C.W.W. president to be elected on her home soil. Dr. McLean has been very active in W.1. since she became a member in 1953. Her job as A.C.W.W. president will extend for a three year term until the 1986 Blackstock United Church will host Day of Prayer Blackstock United Church is hosting the annual World Day of Prayer service this Fri- day, March 2nd at 2 p.m. This ecumenical service is held in many countries of the world under the direction of the International World Day of Prayer Comm- ittee. This year's wor- ship service was pre- pared by Christian women in Sweden. People from the local area are invited to par- ticipate in this world- wide event. Mrs. Margaret Elliott of Pickering is the guest speaker. Her talk will be illustrated. She is a post 'REKKER PHOTOGRAPHY president of the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada and represented our country at International World Day of Prayer Comm- ittee meetings in Zam- bia and in Germany. Mrs. Elliott is active in her community and the Pickering United Church. She was chair- man of the Conference for Women held in Waterloo in 1982 and also involved in Amnesty International. Our guest speaker was Mrs. Marilyn Wallace, who gave a most in- teresting and com- prehensive account in words and pictures of her travels in China last summer. China is en- couraging tourism now, after so long. a period when tourists were not allowed in that country. They are a most artistic people, and to see them working at their world famous hand-made carpets was very in- teresting. Mrs. Wallace had several pictures of the Great Wall of China, one of the wonders of the world! A sincere vote of thanks was given Marilyn for her in- teresting presentation, followed by a social cup of tea and viewing of some beautiful artifacts that were on display. Women gain insight into Toe Alpha by Marlene Moore The general U.C.W. met Wednesday, Feb. 15 inthe church lounge at 8 p.m. 21 members pre- sent. The devotional theme was " Ventures in Mission". This was pre- sented by film, hymn and readings. Two of our teenagers, Brenda Gundry and Coralie Gib- son gave us an insight as to what goes on at a Toe Alpha meeting. These 2 girls spent a weekend Dec. 27-30 at such a meeting in Toronto. It is concerned with drug and alcohol abuse. Our president, Annie Wakeford, pointed outs" few up and coming events in the church. March 2nd is World Day of Prayer in the Prince Albert and Port Perry United Churches; March 5th, a display of collectable plates and Royal Doulton will be on display at our Church, tickets $2.00 each; a bake sale will be held March 23rd in the Port United Church with the proceeds going to Pro- ject Auberge, time 10 o'clock. The U.C.W. ladies are holding a fashion show Wed. April 4th at the United Church - tickets $4.00 each. A dessert luncheon will be served. Next general meeting is May 8th to be held in the form of a unit rally. At Greenbank UCW Bible and women A large group of ladies met at the beauti- ful new home of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Hunter for the February meeting of the Greenbank United Church Women. The 1984 theme "Women of the Bible" was started at this meeting with a study of the life of Deborah. Mary Jean Till read the story of Deborah's achievements, while other members of the group, Velma Foster, Eleanor Crawford, Mildred Dearborn and Jean Hunter assisted by reading scripture, prayer and poems. Melva Irwin and Eileen Jarvis sang 2 duets "He Washed My Eyes With Tears' and "1 Found the Answer' and also provided accompanie- ment on piano accordians for the sing- ing of two hymns 'Tell Me The Old Story" and "It Is No Secret". President Mary Jean Till presided over the business meeting, beginning with a poem for the New Year. Helen McKean read the minutes of the last meeting, the minutes of an executive meeting and took the roll call. Margaret Couper- waite, treasurer gave her report and named the various charities to "which our group makes annual donations. Helen McKean mentioned the World's Day of Prayer to be held on March 2nd. Doris Hill and Margaret Couperth- waite volunteered their help for this service. Anyone having articles of clothing to donate for the sale is ask- ed to contact either Ruby Dusty or Marg- aret Couperwaite who will be in charge of packing arrangements. A majority of members voted to hold a bazaar in the fall - the date will be chosen at the next meeting. The catering comm- ittee announced that we will be catering to a wedding on June 30th. Following discussion regarding a spring church service a comm- ittee consisting of Aleta Leask, Norrine Cook and Mary Jean Till was formed to choose the date and make all Nestleton United Church was the setting ~ for the wedding of Carlyn Allan and Christopher Wilfred Vine, Saturday, November 19th, 1983 at three o'clock p.m. Reverend Dale Davis united the couple, both of Caesarea. Herb Vine ac- companying himself on the guitar, was the soloist, beautiful solos "The Lord's Prayer' and "Perhaps Love."' Mrs. Gwendolyn Malcolm was the organist. The maid-of-honour was Lori Middleton of Scugog Island and the bridesmaids were Danelle Courtney of Oshawa, Valli Harris of Seagrave, and Dianne Killick of Haydon. The best man was Herb Vine of Nestleton, with Dale Williams of Haydon, An- dy Bajema of Nestleton, and Neil Williams of Oshawa as ushers. The flower girl was Brandy Harris of Seagrave and the ring bearer was Bil- ly Allan of Caesarea. Mr. Bob Strong took charge of the reception by being the Master of Ceremonies. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Courtney of Oshawa. Parents of the groom are Helen and Wilfred Vine of Nestleton. Sherree arragements for a morning service.
