22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 28, 1984 Bantam B's on their way A very interesting' weekend produced two big wins which gave the Port Bantrms 2's Jead in the best of seven series against Stirling. Hope- fully the final game will be next Saturday March Sat7:30 P.M. We started off slowly in' the first game with Stirling having the advantage of play until Jamie Menzies scored assisted by lam Smith and John Lally. Robbie Brown then scored on a goal mouth scramble from Blair Bailey and Warren Geer. At the 8:10 mark of the second period, Jeff Oke scored from Blair Phillips. The score at the end of the '"'second period was 3-2 for Port Perry. The visitors immediately scored at the start of the third period to tie the game at 3-3. From the face-off Mike Gibson Port Tweens passed to Jeff Oke who deked the one forward and a defenceman and put a nice shot by the goalie only 8 seconds after Stirling scored. Another goal thirty seconds later by Blair Phillips from Jeff Oke put the game away. We very convincing win considering we took 28 minutes in penalties. We played the game two men short on a number of occasions. This game we didn't wait until the second period to score. Our first goal came at the 3:38 mark as John Lally scored from Jamie Menzies and Ian Smith. Two minutes later Blair Phillips scored from Mike Gib- son. At the 9:24 mark of the second period Jamie On Feb. 25, the C.O.R.L. "B" Tweens played Mississauga who are the only unbeaten team in our division to a 7-4 loss. The first period start- ed with Mississauga keeping the ring in our end for the first 2 to 3 minutes. Luckily for the Kinette team, the other team did not score. Mississauga did score at the 8:12 and 9:13 mark of the first period to take a 2 to 1 lead into the second period. At the end of regu- lation play Mississauga was ahead 54. Since we had not used the alotted time given, both B coaches decided to con- tinue playing. Unfor- tunately for the Kinette team, Mississauga scored twice more mak- ing the final score 7-4. FOR APPOWNTIRENT ... CALL AFTER 4:00 P.M. Menzies scored a nice goal from lan Smith. Andrew Steele picked up a Robbie Brown breakaway shot that hit the post and came back to Andrew who prompt- The Port Perry Bantam B's (in the white sweaters) put a lot of pressure on the Stirling goaltender during ly put it in the net. Consolation win for the Belles On Saturday Feb- ruary 25, the Port Perry IGA Belles travelled to Oshawa to compete in the Regional '"C" Championships. Our first game was at 11:30 a.m. against Lind- say. It was a close, end- to-end battle with a final score of 8-7 for Lindsay. Both teams played well especially the Lindsay goalie who was very sharp throughout the whole game. Port was fairly successful in stopping Warkworth's fast - break play with strong defense from Kim Garland, Sue Waite, Tracey Olsen and Laurie Parry as well as good goal tend- ing from Jill Kendall. However, Warkworth also played well and their goalie just would not slow down as we lost by a score of 7-6. This put us in the con- solation Championship against Ajax on Sunday.
