- MM -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 28, 1984 | --- EE BE i ERI a I " Our Sportsland Junior Ringette team travelled to Harman Park arena in Oshawa this weekend for their annual Region- - al tournament. The first game for Sportsland Sat. was against Oshawa. These girls played very aggress- ively so we found them tough competition. Although Oshawa came out on the winning end Port players all played excellent ringette. Final score was 6-1 with Dawn Park getting the loan goal and Vicki Reid earning the assist. Port's second game Sat. was against Whitby and with a great team effort we came out on top with a score of 12-2. Scoring for Sportsland was Heidi Meisner with 6 goals, Tina Soomre with 4 goals and 1 assist, Karyn Raines with 1 goal and 1- assist and Lori Newell 1 goal. Other assists went to Dawn Park, Denise Tompkins, Natalie Franssen and Lisa St. John. Good defense work girls! We went into the semi finals Sunday full force and the team put in their best effort. Our oppos- ition was Lindsay and they seemed to get the Fathers and scouts by Jerry Linton Over 80 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers and Parents attended the father and son banquet Sunday evening at the Scout Hall. The highlight of the evening came when William Cranmer was presented with an appreciation award by the cubs. He spoke to us all about the fulfillment of his 14 years of Scouting and how the fathers could enjoy the same satisfaction by lending a hand to the Scouting Movement. Scouter of the year was Ray Wallace, Port Perry. STATIONERY Plain or Printed. PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 breaks. Lindsay was able to put one more ring in the net which gave them the game 54. Scoring for Port was Heidi with our 4 goals and then she had to be B Ringettes in semi-finals taken off injured. Hope you're better soon Heidi. Heather Muir played all games in net for us and did her usual super job, stopping a lot of fantastic shooters. These are them, the public speaking champs from schools across Scugog. Last Thursday they got together for a little friendly Speak-Off competition at Cartwright Central Public School. That's Joel Schryburt and Leslie MacKenzie from C.C.P.S. at the bottom of the picture. Joel talked about Mexico and Leslie about her perm. At the next level are the two Prince Albert Public School winners, Jeremy Davidson, who spoke about fishing and David Talbot who spoke on speeches. Next up is David Volman of Greenbank Public School who talked about Billy Bishop and Jason vanVeghel of Ep- som Public School, who spoke on commercials. At the top are the R.H. Cornish winners, Jess Luke whose speech was about video games and Kerri Ann Colby, who talked about her life as a Cabbage Patch Kid.
