2-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 28, 1984 Merrill Van Camp of Blackstock has been named to a three year 'term on 'the board of directors for the Ontario Stock Yards. Mr. Van Camp is a well known hog and beef farmer and is president of the Durham East branch of the Ontario Federation of Agri- culture. His appointment to the seven member board was announced last week by Ontario Agriculture Minister Dennis Timbrell, effect- ive January 1 of this year. The Ontario Stock Yards, a sprawling 33 acres at Keele and St. Clair Streets in Toronto, is owned by the provin- cial government, and directly employs more than 60 people. In the course of a year, more than a 0) "million head of cattle and sheep will pass through the stock yards where five commission- ed firms under permit consign the livestock and present them for sale to the meat packing plants. Mr. Van Camp said the board of directors is responsible for the over- all operation of the yards, everything from negotiating leases on buildings, sanitation _ and the provision of feed for the animals. This is "his first appointment to the Board which meets at least once a month at the stock yards, and has an annual budget of nearly $3 million. The stock yards have been in that location for many years and the city of Toronto has literally grown around them. New stuff from the Bell Fast new equipment costing Bell Canada over $2 million will go into operation in Port Perry this June to meet increasing demand for operator-assisted long distance calling. Orma Lyttle, Bell's 'section manager here, said the new equipment will allow phone users to dial their own person-to- person, collect, calling card and third number billing calls with re- duced assistance from the operator. It will also enable customers in most locations to dial their own overseas calls to many foreign countries. cA FOR YOUR COMPLETE CAR CARE SERVICE Scugog Oil Undercoating Service at 985-9569 The new system, designed by Bell- Northern in Ottawa, is in use in Toronto, Ottawa, Kingston, New- market and many other locations. Instead of having the ~ operator place the call, the new system allows the caller to dial the 'number. While auto- mated equipment routes the call, the operator will arrange the billing or person-to-person details. Detailed publicity plans are being deve- loped to smooth the transition to customer- dialing of overseas and domestic operator- assisted calls. -- Oil Undercoating We do -- Car Washing -- Interior Shampoo -- Wax Treatment MODERN TEXTILES 203 QUEEN STREET - PORT PERRY 985-3221 WALL - CEILING - VANITY - FULL LENGTH - - CLOSET MIRRORS - FREE - No Obligation - tSTIMATE SCUGOG GLASS & MIRROR Lakeview Plaza (Hwy. 7A & Water St.) - Port Perry 985-2844 SRS f TI ee y rl A WF .
