a Er teri i erro FAYE AY VIVE La PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 28, 1984 ---17 Brownies welcomed to pack Seagrave and Area News by Patty Williams On Tuesday Feb. 21st an enrolment ceremony was held for the four newest Brownies of 1st Seagrave Brownie Pack; Rachel Arsen- ault; Jennifer Longo, Barbara Anne Phayne ° and Amanda Weinhold. Our third leader Phyllis. Conlon was also enroled - as a new guider. Pre- sent for the ceremony was our district comm- issioner, Felicity Lomoth and the girls' parents and relatives. Everyone took part in an action story about Lord Baden-Powell, his sister, Agnes and his wife, Olave and the beginning of the scout guide organizations. Cake was served to cele- brate both special occasions. Wednesday many of the children involved in scouting wore their uniforms to school. In honour of Lord Baden-Powell's birth- day a special service was held in Seagrave United Church on Sun- day Feb. 26. Members of the brownies, beavers, cubs, scouts and guides dressed in their uni- forms to take part in the service. After the 'groups entered and took their places their prom- ises were spoken by Ian Smith and Lorna Dur- wood. Amy Lyn Wanna- maker and Christie @e Hearing Aid (Centre ¢f Port Perry Hutcheon both sang solos which were enjoy- ed by everyone. Mr. Roger's topic for the day was appropriately chosen considering the large number of young people and the theme was "Ready-Set-Go." Perhaps not only the founder of the scouting movement deserves tri- bute but also all the leaders and their assistants who volun- teer their time and patience to these young people. This may be an appropriate time to remind everyone that help is needed in the Seagrave area and if you are interested in volunteering please con- tact one of the leaders. On Sunday afternoon a tradition that has been carried on for a decade was upheld when a Feb- ruary Birthday's Cele- bration was held at Ponderosa Steak House in Oshawa. With 38 people gathering together from the Sea- grave area many spirits got a real boost. The Durwood's were beaten out by the Jobin clan again this year with. the highest attendance. Lavel and Margurite Jobin were celebrating their 34th Wedding Ann- iversary. Congratu- lations and best wishes one and all! All the ladies in the Dennss J. Hogan ann Hearing Aid Consultant Dr. E.
