That lead stuck until the.10:00 minute mark of the season period when Utica's Chester Down got the tying marker on a neat set-up from Ken Fraser. Five minutes later C&B again took the lead when Bart Wagar got his first of two assists in 'aiding Tom Powell. Utica once again tied it up, this time midway through the third when Mark Hopper connected with Ian Down for the final Utica goal. With 4:55 to play Tim Ash- bridge notched the winner assisted by Wagar to give C&B the first game in the best of PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March é, 1984 -- 21 three series. In game one Saturday evening in Little Britain, the teams were scoreless through 30 minutes of hockey when the Eagles erupted for five goals in a span of seven minutes en route to a 5-3 victory. Bantam B's win it 6-3 An exciting hockey game Saturday night by the Sportsland Bantam No.2 team proved to be the final game between Stirling and Port Perry. A decisive 6-3 win for the local boys who over- powered the opposition in every department. Our first goal was scored by Jamie Menzies from John Lally and Ian Smith. The second goal was scored by Jamie Menzies again from Brian Dean. This all took place in the first minute of play while Punch was busy clean- ing up the dressing room. Stirling came back with two quick goals but this didn't last long as Steve Connors let a blast go from inside the blue line that caught the top right hand corner of the net. The assist went to Robbie Brown. The score was 3-2 at the end of the first period. Port Perry scored three more goals in the second period to make the final 6-3 in our favour. Scoring for Port Perry was Blair Bailey from Warren Geer and Robbie Brown. The final goal was scored by Jeff Oke assisted by Mike Gibson and Blair Phillips. Warren Geer managed to pick up three penalties during the game along with Steve "Cyclone" Connors who also picked up three penalties. Warren thought a micro wave oven in the pen- alty box would be for people who spend a great deal of time there. As of Sunday March 5 we have no idea who our opponents will be in the finals, but you can bet it will be at least four hours away. Excellent coaching by Dave Obee, Dave Ballingall and Peter Christie have the boys playing exciting hockey. There were more than 100 minutes of penalties called in this game and the Eagles cashed in on their chances in the second half of the match to notch ten goals while enjoying-a man advan- tage. Despite the lop-sided score in game two, most knowledgeable league observers feel the Mer- chants are far from dead and the series could very well go six or 'in Junior C final seven games. The two teams go at it again tonight in game three (March 6) at the Bowmanville Arena and again tomorrow night back in Little Britain, Face off for both these contests is set for 8:30. Game five (if needed) is back in Bowmanville Friday night at 8:00 P.M. and the sixth game is slated for Little Britain Sunday after- noon starting at 1:30. The Merchants reach- ed the finals with fairly easy victories over Uxbridge and Lindsay while the Eagles dis- patched Port Perry and Lakefield to earn their shot at all the marbles.
