yg George Stone Real Estate - 5 Park Hill - 1 The George Stone kids and their parents made the long trip to Parkhill for the third game in the finals of the All-Ontario Pee-Wee B champion- ship. The trip was well worth it, not only because the team won but because they ended up playing the best team hockey we had seen all season. The game was only 15 seconds old when Port put the writing on the wall. Captain Bradbury collected the puck behind the Parkhill goal, touched it in front to Gerry Douma who slapped it home. Ronnie Davis was playing a strong game and set up a few of Vernon's and Douma's raids which had Parkhill"s defence reeling. Eventually Ron Halligan, maybe not the most stylish skater but always giving 100 per cent took a Vernon pass, slapped the puck goal- ward then collected the rebound to make the score 2-0 for Port Perry at the end of the first period. Port Bantams trail in series The Port Perry Gor- eski Bantam A's played the 2nd and 3rd games of the all-Ontario finals in St. Marys on April 7th and 8th. The first game, Port Perry came out on the losing side of a 74 score and also lost the second game 5-4 in overtime. In the first game, the Goreski boys came up flat. With just 1.16 into the game, St. Mary's scored but Port's Greg Stapleton came right back to tie the score with Rob Baker picking up the assist. St. Mary's scored two more to end the first period 3-1. St. Mary's scored early in the second, only to have Port's Dave Burnett find the net, with Bob Goble and Dave Culbert assisting. St. Marys scored again to end the second period 5-2. In the third period each team exchanged a pair of goals. Steve Durham scored both of Port's goals with Rob Baker picking up an "tll AS w----eiy, DN ¢ y TROPHIES § ) and 1 ENGRAVING | DO-NO"s | RECORD, CRAFT & HOBBY WORLD Queen St., Port Perry . 985-2839 3 / TSR, NH ai Ny assist on each goal. Kevin Cearns played between the pipes mak- ing some excellent saves. Sunday's game was a different story with Port coming out flying. There was no scoring in the first period, even, though both teams had some good chances. In the second Rob Baker lit the score board for Port, unassisted. Brad Menzies made it 2-0 with the help of Dave Culbert and Dave Burnett. St. Mary's came back to tie the score at two apiece before the period ended. St. Mary's started the third period with a goal and Port's Dave Burnett scoring from an unlikely position, tied the game again at 3-3 to force the game into a 20 minute overtime. St Mary's once again went ahead. Dave Culbert tied the game once more on a nice passing play from Brad Menzies and Dave Burnett. With 8 seconds left in the game St. Mary's scored to win. With a little luck things could have been different. Dave Burnett, John Harman and Rob Baker each had excell- ent scoring chances, but were robbed by the St. Mary's goal tender. Bill Eade played in the Port Perry net, making many excellent saves. The fourth game of the series will be played in Port Perry on Saturday, April 14th at 7:00 P.M. The defence with Akker- man andAppleby dom- inating was showing the puck ahead where the forward line was putting on a great display of skating and passing. When Parkhill did get a shot on goal, they found Dave Buxcey in good form. Jim Vernon collected his second assist with a great play which left Gerry Douma the chance for Port to pull 3 goals ahead. Even the Parkhill fans cheer- ed at this well taken goal. The home team did get a goal shortly afterwards when a shot through a swarm of players caught our goalie unsighted! Whereas the Stone team used to be deadly slow at the beginning of periods, there has been a complete reversal in the last few games. Within 20 seconds of the start of the last period, the puck had flashed from Akkerman to Bradbury to Halligan with the latter clipping the puck past the gallant young goalkeeper from Parkhill. Both Teno boys were showing lots of hustle and played fast aggressive hockey against a defence who were a lot bigger than they were. The strength of Matt Durward in the corners was beginning to wear the Parkhill boys down and their tempers were getting short as they were making very little impression on Jamie Brown's goal. Ryan Free who had to miss a few games due to injury was making a fine comeback with lots of plucky rushing. The last goal of the season to make the score 5-1 came when Jim Vernon set up Neil Mark whése shot found the net over the goalie's right shoulder. This meant that every member of the team, other than the goalies, had scored a goal this season. This crowned what coach Mark Jobb, Larry Page and Bill Owen had tried to do all season -- blend a motley bunch of not too skillful individuals into a sweet skating, hustling hockey team. The parents of the team would like to thank the three coaches mentioned above and the sponsor, George Stone Real Estate, for providing their kids with such an exhilarat- ing season. In the first game, Port looked like they were very tired from the long bus ride and couldn't get their act together and finally went down to defeat by a score of 5 to 6. Port's one goal was scored by Mike Fluke assisted by Chris Lane. The next game of the series was played the next morning in Park Hill and it looked like Port had come to play hockey as they opened the scoring at the 5:08 mark. This goal was scored by Nick Cracknell assisted by Karl Durham. Park Hill tied the game up in the second period and then went up with 2 quick goals in the 3rd period.
