Penalties proved to be the downfall for the Frank boys, as they had 4 short handed goals scored against them. Needing a win to stay in contention, Frank stayed away from the Sin Bin in Sunday's first game and earned a well-deserved 2-1 win to set up a fourth and deciding game Sunday evening. With all the marbles on the table, Wes Lane came out charged up and took control by scoring 3 first period goals. This seemed to take the wind out of Frank's sails. Lane came back midway in the 2nd with another goal to take the 4-0 lead. The final half of the game was scoreless sealing a 4-0 win and the .Pee Wee H.L. Champ- ionship for Wes Lane. 'Gold medals for grade seven guys On Saturday April 7, the R.H. Cornish Grade 7 boys and girls Basket- ball teams competed in the annual- Port Perry Tournament organized by Mr. John Hinch of Cartwright Public School. In the boys division played at R.H. Cornish the team coached by Mr. R. Smart defeated Whitby Senior, Lake Vista, Sunderland and Bowmanville to qualify for the championship game against Sunset Heights, the winners in play at Cartwright School. The Cornish boys who were Grade 6 Durham Champs last year, play- ed fine basketball to capture the Gold Medal as Tournament Champs. This concludes a very successful season for the team. They also won Silver Medals at the Courtice Tournament this year. In the Girls Division played at Port Perry High School, the team coached by Mr. K. Smart and Mr. W. Addison were also equal to the task and swept all four games from Sun- derland, Cartwright B, M.J. Hobbs and Lake Vista. In championship play they were edged out by Joseph Gould, but were worthy Silver Medal recipients. This marks the second Silver Medal for the Cornish girls as they also finished second in the Courtice Tourna- ment during March. Congratulations are extended to both teams for. their fine play and sportsmanship this season. Special mention must also be given to the many High School students from both Port Perry and Cartwright. These former public school players and supporters, gave their time to officiate and act as scorers all day. Thank you to Mr. Hinch and staff for the excell- ent tournaments. Good luck to our Grade 6 Boys and Girls Teams who will be competing in the D.E.AA. Durham Central playdowns this week at Sunderland and Thorah Central. The Grade Seven boys basketball team turned in a flawless performance on Saturday to win an invitational tournament held at R.H. Cornish School.
