Scugog council may take legal action to move wrecked cars Scugog Township may take legal action to force the removal of wrecked cars behind a garage on Water Street in Port Perry. Last week, council received a strongly worded written com- plaint about the wreck- ed cars from Michael Wade, owner of the Railroadhouse Motel, who said the wrecked cars in the lot near the motel are a contra- vention of local zoning by-laws. Several members of council agreed with Mr. Wade that the wrecked cars are an eyesore and a detriment to the area, and the matter should be corrected. Mr. Wade told council the zoning by-law does not permit a wrecking yard on that site, and "it cannot be classified New jchoo) (From page 1) school. Despite the fact, con- struction of a new school is several years away, Rev. McEntyre said he feels there is a need for . a new school in Port Perry "at this time." He noted that R.H. Cornish has 946 students with four portable class- rooms, and probably two or three more by this fall. He said the school is not over-crowded, but is "over-loaded'"' with a wide variety of educat- ional programs. At Prince Albert School, there are now 411 students, and the school is forced to use six portables. The most important hurdle the new school would have to clear is approval for construc- tion costs from the provincial government, which pays 85 per cent of the cost of new schools. The Durham Board is also recommending that a new addition be con- structed at Greenbank Public School to include a library, gymnasium and extra classroom space. If the addition gets approval, the old schoolhouse would be closed down. as a car dealership or storage yard if parts of cars or wrecks are stored there'. The property in. question is located to the northeast of the motel and many of the rooms overlook the lot. Bass derby (From page 1) netted, tagged and re- leased by officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources. Mr. Barr said to give fishermen a better chance of catch- ing a tagged fish this year, all fish will be released in the west arm of the lake, south of the entrance to the Nonquon River. Last year's grand prize was a $10,000 fish (with 11 others tagged for smaller amounts) and they all eluded the fishermen on the day of the derby. So if you enjoy bass fishing and would like a shot at up to $30,000, set aside June 30 and join the fun.
