Please try to have them in your driveway or let the collector know where they are. This Friday is the night we've been look- ing forward to at 8 p.m. when we may just not miss the Annual Choir Concert at the Island United Church. They always have a real treat in store for us. The next day, Sat. April 28 is the Hospital Spring Fair at the Latcham Centre and also the Auction Sale at the Island Marina. The '""Head" UCW will hold their next meeting at the home of Irene Carter, Wed. May 2. The sharing of pictures of China with the "Grace" UCW has been cancelled at this time due to date inconvenience. The Hot luncheon served by "Grace" UCW and Art and Craft Show by the '"Head" UCW is slightly more than 2 weeks away. The Annual open Scugog Social Planning Council meeting will be held next Monday April / EEE EE " * 30 at the Presbyterian Church at 12 noon with a pot luck lunch. Every- one is welcome to come and hear Doug Manuel, Gen. Manager of Handi- Transit Corp. and view one of the vehicles that will be in use in the area in the near future. Mrs. Ada Pearson, the mother of Joan Aldred, has lived in Oshawa for many years but has always taken a keen interest in Island activ- ities, particularly in the Church. During this time she has made many Island friends. Still interested and mentally alert, tho' physically handicapped, she has decided to move to the Port Perry Villa where she hopes to see many friends and family from time to time. About two weeks ago Jack Barry with his wife and youngest daughter from Edmonton, Alberta accompanied by his sister Geraldine and husband Paul Espie of Haliburton visited family Ted and Noreen Leahy and former neighbours, the Earl Readers. Arth- ritis in hands and feet have handicapped his activity. But he enjoyed his visit and saw many changes in area deve- lopment and family members. Easter certainly delivered ideal weather and it seemed as if all the churches were well attended. Scugog United being no exception. the breakfast, music and service all had a special place. You will be interested to hear that Rev. Barry Pogue's wife is going into the ministry and will be serving at South- minister. Mr. Pogue served the Scugog Past- oral Charge for several years while still teach- ing at Durham College. Scugog Social Planning Council On Monday Mar. 26 a noon luncheon at the Port Perry United Church was served to 20 . people who attended the regular meeting. Sev- eral new represent- atives were attending for the first time. Pat Martindale pre- sented an update on Co-operative Housing. Mr. Ed Goerz, who has had 10 years exper- ience with the men's Hostel of Oshawa was present to show slides and give information on the living conditions and assistance provided and source of general prov- ision where various organizations can help. The president explain- ed the system of funding to the Council thro' individuals or organiz- ations. It was noted that the Council had started Community Care, Big . Brothers and Operation Scugog and is now promoting Housing and Friday is annual Choir Concert Handi-Transit all within the Scugog Township. The Annual open meeting will be held at noon at the Presbyter- ian Church in Port Perry with a pot luck - luncheon Monday April 30. Doug Manuel, Gen. Manager of Handi- Transit Corp. will be the speaker and will have one of the vehicles for viewing. So come along and bring other ideas you would like to see pro- moted. Four boys baptized at Utica Church Utica & Area News by Vera Brown Church and Sunday School this week will be at Utica at 11:00 a.m. The Youth Group are sponsoring a Ham Supper this Friday in Epsom Church beginn- ing at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available from members or contact the Arnold Kerry's or Paul Baster"s. There will be a baby shower and present- ation for Mrs. Patricia (Bolton) Power on Sat- urday May 5 at 2 p.m. at Epsom Church. All are cordially invited to attend. There will be a euchre in Utica Hall this Friday at- 8 pm. and on Saturday evening the Hall Board are holding a dance featuring the Country Ramblers. The Church at Utica was filled to capacity on Sunday for observance of Easter Sunday and the baptism of four boys who are Derek the son of Keith and Kim Ellicott, Donald who is the son of Jim and Caroline Beelby and Trevor and Travis the sons of Doug and Judy MacSween. Mrs. Caroline Beelby was welcomed into the congregation by trans- fer of membership from Zephyr Church. Bill and I were in Kingston on Friday and had lunch with our son, Charlie in his new home and later he took us on a guided tour of the Town- 'ship, City, Fort Henry and other points of interest. Scott, Mr. and 'Mrs. Dave Bradstreet and Jesse, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Innis and Mr. Matthew Innis, all of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. W. Scott and Mr. Bob Scott of London, Mrs. Marjorie Honey and Mr. Bruce Beare of Port Perry. Mrs. Elizabeth Skeld- ing of Newcastle was a weekend guest with son Jack, Nancy and girls. Mrs. Katherine Ash- ley and Sarah and Mrs. Barbara England and Amanda of Oshawa call- ed on Mr. and'Mrs. Earl Fielding on Friday. Easter visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Diamond were Dr. and Mrs. Bill Diamond and children from Conn., Mr and Mrs. Bob Diamond and family of Oshawa and Mr. Ross Diamond and son Kevin of Scar- borough. & Big Apple bound New York, New York ---- what a place, what a place! And it looks like 17 year old Crystal Tremble will be going there this summer, after winning a United Nations contest sponsored by the Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodge. To win the contest, Crystal was required to give a speech on the U.N. and pass a series of tests. She'll leave for New York via bus on July 20 and return on' the 30th after touring the United Nations General Assembly and meeting other contest winners from across the country. Also in- cluded in the trip is a pit stop in Ottawa. She said she was 'ecstatic' when she heard about her win but she shouldn't have been too surprised.
