Simpson manufacturing plant just south of Port Perry will mean an additional 40 or 50 new jobs, according to company officials. It is a long way from twenty months ago when the previous company was in receivership and the employees no longer had jobs under previous ownership. The turn around and 125 growth under A.G. Simpson is the combined efforts of the entire work force. In an interview last week with management and Bob McDonald, Chairman of the Plant Council representing the employees, it was evi- dent that the statements made by both parties speaks well for the peo- ple of Port Perry, the Star was told. The major commit- ment of $2.5 million by A.G. Simpson includes a plant addition of 16,000 square feet, new equip- ment, and, most impor- tantly, the creation of 40 to 50 new jobs for the area. "The employees performance and at- titude over the past 20 months were instrumen- tal in allowing the Com- pany to actively pursue new contracts (to supply parts to Ford and General Motors)." Plant Manager John Simpson told the Star. "The 'we' attitude is truly prevalent in this company. The people of this plant are committed to a strong, on-going future growth for this plant.' Rob Simpson, Materials Manager, said. "This is a major com- mitment to the Port Perry plant and the credit has to go the peo- ple who work here," said A.G. Simpson president Ben Virgilio. i The Port Perry plant is one of six owned by A.G. Simpson in Ontario. The one here manufactures sliding seat tracks for Ford and G.M. products. . The plant, on the east side of the Oshawa road, just south of Port Perry, is now 45,000 square feet in size and an addition will add another 16,000 square feet. John Simpson said that once the construction is finished and the new equipment moved in, the Company will im- mediately start to fill the 40 or 50 new positi' ns. The construction will be finished by the end of June and company of- ficials plan on capacity production by the end of August. "Based on our current work force, op- timism is high on the hir- ing of the additional quality people from the area," noted Simpson. "The people are look- ing forward to the im- proved economy of the area as well as their own job security." Mr. McDonald said. "Two years ago things looked very dim and now we are much happier knowing that our prosperity im- proves only when our company's prosperity improves." A.G. Simpson has two plants in Scarborough and one each in Oshawa, Windsor, Oakville and Port Perry with a total work force of over 1200 people.
