Pay tribute to the late Leo Taylor "The Port Perry Minor Hockey Association held its annual banquet and awards night last Sat- urday at the Legion Hall. Association president Grant Williams took the occasion to pay tribute to the many volunteers who put in long hours during the winter months to ensure the success of minor hockey in this community. He mentioned members of the execu- tive, league convenors, coaches, managers, the referees, and the more than 30 sponsors "the community minded people who put the sweaters and socks on the players'. Much of the evening was taken up with the presentation of individ- ual awards for sports- manship and ability to the players from all age groups and leagues (See photos). And there was a moving moment when the Association paid tribute to the late Leo Taylor who spent 23 years on the executive of the Minor Hockey Association in this community, including 20 as secretary-treas- urer. Mr. Taylor passed away last year, and Mr. Williams presented an engraved plaque to Mrs. Doris Taylor and family members in his honour. This beautiful plaque ¥ will be displayed per- manently at the Scugog Arena. In his remarks at the banquet, Mr. Williams rioted that three rep teams won champion- ships this year, and three others advanced to the finals. The members of the championship teams will be honoured at a second banquet to be held May 5 at the Blackstock Rec Centre.
