Nature photo contest The deadline for the Kawartha Region Con- servation Authority photo contest is May 11. Information Co-ordina- tor Kate Saunders says that entries are slow coming in this year, but expects a good turnout during the last two weeks of the contest. This is the fourth year that the Conservation Authority has sponsored the spring photography : contest, which will be : displayed at the Sir Sandford Fleming College (Lindsay) OLOR "Spring Reflections" ATEX SOLID © art show. The show will RE run from May 22 OU SEMI-TRANSP through June 3. Themes for the photo contest always revolve around the outdoors and conservation. This year's theme, "Nature in the Kawarthas", will allow photographers to really use their imagin- ations and utilize a wide range of natural sub- jects and interpre- tations. Two categories, one for prints and one for slides allow photo- graphers to choose their favourite method of pre- sentation. Prizes will be award- ed for both categories. First prize is a $35 gift certificate to Toronto Camera, second prize a $25 gift certificate to the Nature Canada book- shop, and third prize is a copy of "Photography of Natural Things" by Canadian photographer Freeman Patterson. Last year's contest judge, artist Chuck Burns describes what he looks for in a nature photograph, "The photographer must combine the technical aspects of photography with a romantic spirit, recording with a camera what artists and thinkers have always observed in nature'.
