| Sunday is Commemoration Day Ashburn News by Mrs. Rose Heron A very enjoyable meeting was held with the Brooklin Horti- culture last Wednesday evening in the Brooklin United Church Hall. 'Fun with Flora' got everyone moving to find their piece of a flower picture that fit and when the 1st flower picture was all put together that group received a lovely flowering cactus. Gary Young who lives in Ashburn and has the Brooklin Rental business had some garden machinery there and explained how each one is used to make gardening better and easier. A lovely flower show was enjoyed. Congrat- ulations to Chrissie Mc- Kinney on receiving a number of prizes for her african violets. Ken Brown entered a very beautiful amarylis and Margaret Wick received 1st prize for the best house plant. It was a beautiful cyclamen. A lovely lunch was enjoy- ed. Rose Heron spent two days at Port Perry this past week at the Louise Patterson Handicraft Guild show, when along with Margaret Cornish, demonstrated embroid- ery on Gingham currently called 'chicken scratch'. Other _ members demonstrated various crafts. There was a good attendance and much interest shown. There is going to be a community yard sale and bake sale at the Community Centre, Sat. May 12, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be antiques, household articles, tools etc offered.
