OBITUARY ~ Markham Lunnon Truax Markham Lunnon Truax, son of David and Katurah Truax passed away April 11, 1984 at the Port Perry Comm- unity Memorial Hospital. He was born December 21, 1895 in Saintfield Ontario and was a lifetime resident of the Saintfield area and has resided at his home since 1922. He was married to Lillian Ward on June 21, 1951. Survived by wife Lillian, son David and daughter Janet and niece Mrs. Ken Clark (Muriel) and family. Predeceased by his parents, sisters Mrs. Wm. Ryan (Alice), Mrs. R. Glide (Edna) and brothers Russell and Gordon. The funeral service was held April 13, 1984 at Lows Funeral Home, Uxbridge with Rev. D.W. Eyre officiating. Pallbearers were Mr. Ross Creighton, Mr. John Durward, Mr. Dennis Irwin, Mr. Wayne Irwin, Mr. Fred Phoenix and Mr. Morley Raines. Interment to be in Bethal Cemetery, Greenbank, Ontario. Local service projects supported by the two Port Perry Chapters this year have included Cancer Society Daffodil sales, Heart Fund, Counter Sales, Meals on Wheels, Hospital Auxil- iary, Operation Scugog, PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 8, 1984 -- 9 Sorority celebrates anniversary Block Parents, Sending a local child to camp, Larry Cooke M.S. Fund, Music Scholarship at R.H. Cornish School and a Theatre Arts Scholar- ship at Port Perry High School. In addition to this, funds were donated to the Hospital for Sick Children and the Diabet- ic Association. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Sorority in Port Perry and the charter mem- bers were all honoured and presented with a lovely gift in recognition Treat her right this Mother's Day and surprise her with a beautiful chair. of this milestone. One of the highest honours for which a member in Beta Sigma Phi may strive was awarded to Sharon De- Jeet. The Order of the Rose was presented to Sharon to express the gratitude of the Chapter for her distinguished service and contribu- tions to Sorority. A candidate for this award must have been in Sorority for at least 15 years. Sharon joined Soror- ity in Kitchener-Water- ©) House or Howano loo in 1967. Since then she has been active in Chapters in St. Johns, Nfld., Montreal, Oshawa and Port Perry. In addition to this very special honor - Sharon was also voted upon by the girls of her chapter, XI Epsilon Theta, as Girl of the Year for her outstand- ing service to the Chap- ter throughout the year. Doreen Flynn was voted as Girl of the Year for Theta Delta Chapter, however, due to illness, was unable to attend. A. ~~ -------- LL
