Build permits start moving _ Although construction activity in Scugog Township is still lagging far behind last year, things began to pick up a little during the month of April. A report issued last week by the Township building department shows the value of building permits issued in Scugog to the end of April at $2,166,875, less than half the $4.7 million worth of permits issued during the first four months of 1983. The most significant decline this year has been in the building of new homes. So far this year, there have been 21 permits issued for single family resid- ences, compared with 71 during the same time last year. However, as 18 of the permits this year were issued in April, there are indications that the housing industry is gett- ing stronger here. The total number of all permits has dropped off sharply this year from 132 in 1983 to just 59 for the first four months of 1984. The only building sector that shows an improvement this year is industrial and comm- ercial, which so far has a value of $301,000, compared to $78,000 dur- ing the first four months of last year. The number of per- mits for additions and renovations, garages, swimming pools and farm buildings has dropped from last year.
