At Ere pm-- - Tea Couple celebrates anniversary Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock Many friends, neigh- bours and relatives enjoyed the hospitality of Art and Gloria New- man last Sunday after- noon when they grac- iously held Open House for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Darrell"s 60th wedding anniver- sary. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell are a popular and well-loved couple in our village and we extend to them both many more years of health and happiness together. Plaques of congratulations were received from the Hon. Wm. Davis and the Twp. of Scugog. Our Victoria Day cele- brations, due to the weatherman, were cele- brated several times this week in the form of lightning and thunder! The considerable rain- fall that accompanied these cloudbursts should be welcomed by all the avid gardeners who spent most of the long weekend planting their gardens. The Fun Day which was held at the Green- bank Public School on Saturday was a terrific success! Thanks to everyone who contribut- ed in any way to make this event so successful. From all reports, the kids enjoyed the plann- ing of this special day very, very much. Last Monday the students from the grade 8 classes of R.H. Cor- nish Public School enjoyed a day trip to the Metro Toronto Zoo on Monday of last week. Mrs. Raines, Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Coates classes from the Epsom Public School visited Cullen Gardens recently and were quite impress- ed with the miniature village and the spec- tacular showing of the spring flowers. We were saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Ellsworth Kenndy"s father, the late Arthur Henry Kennedy at the Lake- view Manor Nursing Home in Beaverton last Sunday. We extend our sympathy to Ellsworth and Louella and their family during their bereavement. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Fred Puckrin were delighted to be present at the marriage of her niece Miss Heather Hollingér to Mr. Terry Cyr at the Cherrywood United Church. Thank you Mother Nature for the beautiful weather that the Play- group had for their trip to the Metro Zoo. The turnout was the best ever and everyone seemed to really have a great time. Order forms and money for the cheese that is being sold to help pay for the cost of the bus are to be returned to the teacher by Thurs. May 31. Hopefully the cheese will be ready for pick-up at Playgroup next week. Congratulations and best wishes to Miss Dorothy Fitze and Mr. Rodger Stephens and Miss Tracy Fitze and Mr. Carl Uyfschaft who' were married Saturday in a double ceremony at the Greenbank United Church. Happy birthday greet- ings to Mrs. Jessie Nobbs and Mst. Brett Puckrin who both depo- sited coins in the birth- day box at church on Sunday. The Seagrave Sunday School Anniversary was celebrated on Sunday with a large crowd of worshippers in attend- ance to hear our guest speaker Mrs. Susan Genge from St. Andrews United Church in Oshawa. Mrs. Genge was an instant hit with the kids as well as capturing the attention of the adults. Special mention must be made of our promis- ing young musicians and soloists who favour- ed us with some very professional-sounding selections. Soloists included Amy-Lynn Wanamaker and a vocal duet by Scott and Shelley Spencer of Greenbank and Kristy Hutcheon and Lori Buscher each provided a piano solo for our entertainment. Thank you so much kids - we are very proud of each of you and we greatly appreciate the contrib- ution that you made to our anniversary service. Following the service guests were invited downstairs to enjoy a light lunch and to cele- brate yet another special occasion - the retirement of Mr. Bill Keen as custodian. Acting as Master of Ceremonies, Neil Wana- maker humourously related some past history concerning Mr. Keen's almost 40 years of custodial service to our church. He and his wife, Ila were praised for their hard work and dedication and were presented with a pen and ink sketch of the Seagrave United Church by a 'locally famous" artist, Mr. Bert Law. Bill and Ila both expressed their apprec- iation for the gift and their regret that due to ill health it had become necessary to resign. On behalf of all who have used the church during this period of time we say "thank you folks" for a job well done! This week end was certainly one of happy surprises for Mr. and Mrs. Keen. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harwood of Scarboro visited with their uncle Bill and Aunt Ila. Since it had been 27 years since these folks had met it would no doubt be quite a memorable re- union! Last week along with many other parents from the area I had the - pleasure of attending the Greenbank Public School's production of the "Canada Goose' which was held at the Sunderland Lions Club Hall and I was thorough- ly impressed with every aspect of the play!! I could hardly believe that such a little school could have such a heap- ing amount of talent. Hats off to the students, teachers and the princ- ipal Mr. Bud Morrison for providing such a first rate evening of entertainment. It defin- itely was a four star production.
