Square dance, parade top special events list Utica & Area News by Vera Brown Church and Sunday School this week are at Epsom Church at 11:00 a.m. at which time a service of Holy Comm- union will be observed. On June 24th the Sunday School will be holding their graduation ceremony which will be followed by a picnic on the Utica Church grounds. On June 30th there will be a bake sale with proceeds to the Sunday School. Mark your calendar for the 13th, 14th and 15th of July, so that you _ can celebrate Ontario's Bicentennial with the Epsom-Utica United Church. There will be a square dance, parade, baseball and CHOO radio gang, a roast beef dinner followed by a musical and skits. A church service will be held at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon. Watch for posters and coming events for further par- ticulars. Euchre winners this week were Ladies 1st to Betty Boose, 2nd Doris Bell and low Marg. Gall. Mens 1st William Brown' 2nd Stan Beach and low Ross Thompson. Freeze-out winners were Rachel Eeckout and George Harper with Marlene Blain and Mildred Thompson 2nd. There will be another euchre this Friday at 8 p.m. in Utica Hall. This past Tuesday, June 5th a dedication ceremony was held hen the street in Utica eights was officially named Christie Cres- cent. Utica Heights is part of the 200 acre farm settled by John Christie Sr. who came as a widower with his 4 children in 1836 from Breadabane in Scot- land. It was this John Crhistie who wrote to the Earl of Breadabane for funds to build a church with the results that the present Breada- bane Presbyterian Church and cemetery were built on land donated by Mr. Christie. This farm was in this Christie family until 1939 and 4 generations have lived on the prop- erty in Utica. The last memember being a great grandaughter, the late Helen Christie Ack- ney. The estate home was last owned by a Stephenson who lives in Port Perry. John Sr. was the great grand- father of Allely and Alpine Christie of Epson, Iola Heard of Port Perry and Jean Thompson of Victoria Corners who are deceased, and Cora Christie Gunyou of Toronto, Stan Christie of Uxbridge, Lulu Christie, Gladys Hunter, Mrs. Webber and Hazel Dunn of Oshawa. The area Claughtons are all des- cendants. of John Christie Sr. Some of the other descendants are Reba Christie of Toronto, Murial Fisher of Ashburn, Audrey Walsh of Sutton and Darlene Christie Begin who lives in Epsom. Best wishes to Mrs. Vera Taylor for a speedy recovery.
