A gracious lady in every sense of the word with a warm personality. We shall "indeed" miss her. Our deepest sym- pathy to family and friend. Friends gather for 40th anniversary Scugog Island News by Mrs. Earl Reader We are pleased to be able to offer congratul- ations and happier gatherings this week instead of funerals. On Sunday the Tan- sleys announced that they will celebrate their 40th wedding anniver- sary August 2 and adherents of the Scugog Pastoral Charge are invited to call at their Open House in Colum- bus. This week has been full of pleasant <ur- prises even in the United Church. At Pres- bytery at Greenwood on Tuesday night, we learned that our Induc- tion Service will defin- itely be Fri. July 13 at 7:30 p.m. At this time all ministers and lay delegates of the Oshawa Presbytery are invited to present a welcoming Service to the new minister. Of course, the Pastoral Charge also shares this special time. As Sunday was Rev. Tansley's last Official Service on the Island, Manchester joined with Scugog Island in a Holy Communion Service. Part of the serving of Communion, Dr. Jim Gerrow, presented a silver chalice and paten from the Gerrow family in memory of Don Gerrow. Rev. Tansley accepted and dedicated these additions for the Service. Following this Geo. Freeman addressed Rev. Tansley and pre- sented him with an appreciation gift of a cheque to be used at the United Church Publish- ing House where he can indulge in some special desire. Following Rev. Tanlsey's conclusive words of thanks, he and Mrs. Tansley were invited to share a coffee hour with the congreg- ation. The next surprise came when it was drawn to our attention that Rev. Brian Robin- son and his wife were on the Island and had been sharing the morning with us. The completed base- ment with its fresh paint, colourful carpet and dainty white curtains certainly proved what can be done when people work together. During the last week, the men have been busy installing drainage around the Church even (Turn to page 25) WHITAKER'S STRAWBERRIES AU Ik No Children under 10 in Main Patch. 985-3170 SHIRLEY ROAD - 1/8 mile east of Oshawa Road, 4 miles south of Port Perry. i AB AMAR IN tN A A I 5 3, EB I LE Ion GAN g a; i Ane. o a
