Kiezebrink welcomed the crowd before the class valedictorian, Jody Luke gave her address. Following Jody's remarks, the graduating classes were introduced and the presentation of awards were made. English as second language The Durham Board of Education will, once again, hold English as a Second Language class this summer at Adelaide McLaughlin Public School, 630 Stevenson Road North, Oshawa. Classes will begin on Tuesday, July 3rd and continue each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs- day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon until August 9th. There is no charge for the course. W NAA Farm injuries way up over past few years The number of farm- ers and farm workers injured on the job in Ontario increased dramatically in 1983, according to a report from the Farm Safety Association. The report released . last week shows there are 2809 lost-time injur- ies on Ontario farms in 1983, a 14 per cent increase over the pre- vious year. This is the most injuries recorded in a single year. The previous high was 1980 with 2650 injuries. The county or region with the most injuries reported was Haldi- mand-Norfolk with 351 or 12.5 per cent, and the landscape nursery sector had the most injuries with 632 or 22.5 . per cent. There were 87 lost time injuries reported in Durham, or 3.1 per cent of the total. The Farm Safety Association says that in 1983, lost time injuries in Ontario resulted in $10.7 in benefits to workers with the aver- age compensation for an injury amounting to $3800. Almost half of the workers injured on Ont- ario farms last year were under 25 years of age.
