Queen Street spoof A bar, a hero, a villain, and all the other melodram- atic ingredients go into School's Out Produc- tion's western spoof "Brannigan of the Yukon". Presented in front of the post office during Western Weekend, the skit returns to the rough and tumble days of yesteryear only to find they weren't so rough. A female phohibitionist movement (F.R.I1.G. 1.D.) has all but closed down the local bar in their battle against violence and alcohol. Locals yearning for old style excitement are given hope when an outlaw is reported head- ing for town and his yearly junk food binge but the hope quickly turns to fear when he traps everyone in the bar. Soon the town's only hope is Brannigan of the Yukon (macho hero and quiche eater) who must Correction A photo caption on page 18 in the July 4 issue of the Port Perry Star said the paintings on display at Scugog Library by Jim Shortt would continue for the next three weeks. Underneath a thick mane of yellow hair, tucked away just above her bangs, is an auto- graph from the King of Rockabilly, = Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins. Suzanne's owner, * eight year old Michelle Malcolm of Nestleton, is smug in the knowledge that she's got the neat- est doll in town. Michelle met The Hawk June 30 at his Three R Ranch on Stoney Lake during a mammoth auction sale. All sorts of Hawkins memorabilia was auctioned off, including furniture, antique cars, boots, hats and musical instruments. And Ronnie was there, of course, signing autographs for the 2,000 or so fans that flocked to buy a piece of The Hawk and help relieve him of all his famous financial worries. Michelle wanted an autograph too (actually it was her mom, Kathy, that REALLY wanted the autograph) but didn't have anything that Ronnie could sign. And then, in a flash of inspiration, they decid- ed to let Suzanne make the supreme sacrifice-- her head. The Hawk signed the top of the doll"s head without a qualm. Good- ness knows, he's prob- ably used to that sort of thing. "I said, 'How'd you like to sign the head of a ~Cabbage Patch Kid, Ronnie?' Kathy Mal- colm recalls with a grin. "And he did. Didn't even bat an eyelash". Two Janetville resi- dents, Marie and Dave Sandy, were also at the sale. They reportedly paid more than $1,500 for Hawkins gear, "including several hats, shoes, spurs, a pair of marble-topped speakers and a pair of Czechosl- vakian crystal chande- liers. Great fans of The Hawk, Marie and Dave also managed to cop the - coonskin cap Ronnie wore on his Rock n' Roll Revival album. Rockabilly fans can catch The Hawk in action this Saturday, July 14 at the Scugog Arena for what prom- ises to be the best time anyone's gonna have this summer. Tickets are $10, available at the door or from Irwin Smith Music, Stedman's and the Port Perry Star. See ya there! Chesterfield Suites Love Seats Sectionals & Mattresses - A Large Selection - »!
