| Summer's nearly half over al The second week of playground is finished | already and the third is underway. It's hard to believe the summer is half over already! For those of you who are still interested in registering your child for a week, I will explain the details of registration (there is still time!). Registra- tion takes place at the beginning of each week at the playground site where you would like your child to attend. The fees are $8.00 per week per child and $3.00 per week for each additional child (I'm sorry, but there are no daily fees accepted). The programs are designed by each play- ground, but each group does go swimming at Birdseye, see films, and see a puppet show (presented by Lisa Taylor and associates through the Scugog Memorial Library) once a week. The special activities and events are planned by each play- ground staff (as you'll see as you read on!). I'd like to thank those parents who have child- ren attending play- ground for your partici- pation and urge you to get involved in support- ing your child and the staff in the weeks to come! PRINCE ALBERT Last week was culture week at the Prince Albert playground and we celebrated it by travelling to a different continent everyday. On Monday we travelled throughout the contin- ent of North America and visited our native Indians. Tuesday was a day spent in the deep dark jungles of Africa and Wednesday we journeyed to Europe and to Mother's Parlour in Oshawa for a tour of the restaurant and some delicious pizza. On Thursday we visited Asia and on Friday we looked at the cultures of each child's parents. We also held our cake draw on Friday and Mrs. Anne Thompson of Prince Albert was the lucky winner of a fabu- lous Black Forest Cake from the Stouffville Bakery in Port Perry. The staff of the Prince Albert playground much appreciated. Next week is Nutrition Week. Our playground will be travelling to Burger King on Monday and we will also be visited by some repre- sentatives of 'Nutrition in the Parks'. I would like to remind all parents to send nutrit- ious snacks to play- ground with your child- ren. It will help us to get our message across. Thank you. PORT PERRY This' week our Port Perry Playground start- ed off looking ahead into the future. The kids dressed up in career costumes. Some dressed up as waitresses, paint- ers, firemen and fas hion designers. The winning costume was one of Krystal Knapp. She wishes to be a nurse when she grows up. We also kicked off our fundraiser last week. Tickets are now being sold on a "Black Forest Cherry Cake'. winner will have a delicious dessert to sink his or her teeth into! Tickets sell for 50 cents each and we are hoping everyone in Port Perry will support our money- making venture. The draw will be held at the playground on Friday, July 20th, 1984. The money made from this fundraiser will be put towards a trip for our playground children. If there is any surplus left over it will be used for our Annual Playground Get-to-gether or craft supplied. We hope to have your support and understand- ing as we continue through the six week program. SCUGUG ISLAND Welcome to the con- tinuing series of '"The Young and the Innocent". Week two has been very busy, indeed. This week of fun and laughter included the ever popular puppet show performed by the three ladies from the Library, films, and swimming at Birdseye Pool. The swimming was a bit nippy on Wednesday but we weathered the chill and had a lot of fun. Unfor- The --- CL ne SEE (ei. Ticket sales for our Big Bird Cake Raffle is doing well. The winner of the gorgeous cake, which was generously baked and donated by Mrs. Helen Newlove of Blackstock, will be announced in our next episode. A walk-a-thon is being scheduled to raise money for our final trip to Canada's Wonderland. So if one of our little Scugog Island playground darlings knock on your door for your support, please oblige. Well, this concludes another week of "The Young and the Inno- cent'. Please tune in next week to read about the goings on at '"'Our Place'. GREENBANK It's hard to believe, but our second week is finished - the fun is never over though! Our dress-up day was a huge success and candy was given to all those who joined in the fun. A special thank you must go to our parent volunteers who drove us to Birdseye Pool in Port Perry - Mrs. Downey, Mrs. Hooker, Mrs. James- Mitchell, Mrs. Stalker, Mr. Tredway and Mrs. Winslow. We couldn't have gone with- out your help! As usual, our puppet show was a great success, with an extra bonus - we were taught how to make our own puppets! Thanks Lisa, PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 17, 1984 -- 11 ready? Kathi, and Eleanor! We can't wait until next week when we see the continued adventures of "Todd and Tess". Thursday is hat day and its our movie day too. This week we will be selling popcorn for 10 cents and kool-aid for 15 cents. Oh, by the way, Fri- day was a busy day, you probably saw us down at the Kiddies Parade. In the afternoon we put on a talent show back in Greenbank. We did this and a lot more --- why not come to the playground and join in on the fun? We'll see you there!
