Island minister realizes a dream ~ Scugog Island News by Mrs. Earl Reader - Starting with Monday of last week, your corr- espondent travelled to Toronto to have a re- union with 3 ladies from Toronto, Orangeville and Shelburne, as they had become friends while living together during a special school year. After reaching Toronto, two joined the throngs travelling to the Harbourfront to see the Tall Ships. We had note books stamped by the two young men who later defected from the Polish ship. Then we stood in line 2 hours for the pleasure of boarding and checking the largest 3 masted Polish ships. Tho' tiresome, we felt it was worth it. On Tues- day, the reunion after 2 .years was complete. The heat of the rest of the week led us thro' Western weekend celeb- rations with its various attractions and dis- comforts. Finally, we reached Friday evening with the realization of a dream come through, when the Scugog United Church was filled to capacity with members of Pres- bytery congregation from the Island and Manchester and guests, some of them travelled from Bracebridge, Sea- grave, Oshawa, Black- stock, Prince Albert and Fenelon Falls area. The occasion was to welcome the new Scugog Pastoral Charge minister, Rev. Brian Robinson from Alberta, in an Induction Service conducted by the Oshawa Presbytery. Following the ceremony there was a social hour with Rev. and Mrs. Robinson in the recently improved and decorated basement. Sunday morning Rev. Robinson conducted his first service which was everything to be desired. He certainly is a talented person' and was able to surprise and please the families of children with his puppet and elocution. Even the young people have already responded with their interest and attendance. A few notices are THE 1984 SEASON brought to our attention. Rev. Robinson will be in his office in the morn- ings - 9:30 to 12. If you have notices for printing in the bulletin, please ~ phone him by Thursday 985-9343. For some time you have been accustomed to contacting Mrs. Marion Carter to book the use of the Church for weddings or other occasions. In the future, you will please contact Rev. Robinson. Now we again report our concerns for recent- ly ill or injured people. Baby Adrian Reader, little daughter of Jane and Raymond is in the Oshawa Hospital since Friday for tests. Tim Pearce in the Toronto Hospital has improved as much in 2 weeks as they expected for 2 months. Of course, he still has many bruises and suffers con- siderable pain from head and hip injuries. The weekend saw 2 car accidents on the Island. The cars in which the Bobbies and Smiths were involved were completely wreck- ed but we are pleased to report the injuries were not serious. Bill Bobbie will soon be released from hospital. The others have bruises MOVING TO LARGER PREMISES enabling us to better service you. The Herolds haven't lived at the "Head" very long but you may have met Linda at the Medical Centre Lab. when she takes your blood or gives you other tests. We hope for happier reports next week. Friday and Saturday of this week is a big time for the Island Women's Institute. At 1 p.m. on Friday, the members are requested to meet at the Hall with their items for the fish pond and time to sort and arrange donated articles for Sat- ~ urday's auction which starts at 11 a.m. with John Pearce assisting in the auction. The ladies will have baking and various foods to sell as refreshments. This is a good time to meet summer visitors and old friends and pick up a variety of surprises at reasonable prices.
