On Sunday afternoon a large number of Laurie Bailey. A delicious dessert lun- cheon of decorated cake and ice-cream was en- joyed by the ladies. Mrs. L. McArthur read a humorous reading after which Laurie opened her many beautiful gifts assisted by her sisters Sharon and Janet Bailey and little cousin Stephanie Shortridge. Laurie thanked everyone for their kindness. The groom Eric Zeidman's mother and Aunt Toby both from Toronto at- tended the shower. Best wishes are ex to Laurie and her husband- to-be from her many Blackstock friends. Sunday evening callers of Mr. and Mrs. Hector -Shortridge were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Archer and Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Ar- cher of Bowmanville. On Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe held a very suc- cessful auction sale. On Sunday, a large number of the members of the Ferguson Clan held their annual picnic at the home of Joan and Harvey Graham and family of Purple Hill. The day was spent play- ing games, swimming and visiting as well as enjoying bountiful food. The Demolition Derby Committee of the Blackstock Agricultural Society met on Wednes- - day evening under the chairmanship of Roly Coy. The derby, a new event for Blackstock, will be held on Friday evening, August 24, at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Blackstock Fair. There ° will be 30 cars accepted on a first come-first to be accepted basis. Entry forms and rules are available from Secretary Joyce Kelly 986-4257. A most boun- tiful pot-luck dinner was, as usual, one of the highlights of the day. Much fun was had by the good number present in the good programmes of games and contests while the older members enjoyed the day for visiting and catching up on eon gy the Werry picnic, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Tresise, Oshawa, and Mrs. Martin Scott of Mississauga called on Mr. and Mrs. Hector Shortridge. The Annual Devitt's Dungeon Horse Shoe Tournament was held on the weekend. It was hosted by Phil and . Claudette Archer and Tom and Wilma Wotton and held at the home of Phil and Claudette. Ap- proximately sixty young people competed in the tournament with the champion trophies being won by Rick Hawes for the men's; Wilma Wot- ten for the ladies; and Tom and Wilma Wotten for the mixed. On Satur- day evening music was provided by Harry Wright, David Bradt and Dave Wotton. During the weekend, everyone en- joyed swimming at Ted and Fern Harvard's pond. It was a very suc- cessful weekend. Todd James who was seriously in a traffic accident several weeks ago continues his slow but steady improve- ment and has been transferred from Sun- nybrook Hospital to Riverdale Hospital for a more intensive therapy treatment. Glad to report that Mrs. Frank Bailey has come home from Port Perry Hospital. Also it is great to see both Cecil and Evelyn Hamilton slowing im- proving at home after their lengthy stays in hospital. Margaret Couperth- waite spent Sunday afternoon visiting with Mrs. Reazin and the Cyr family in Wick. Ruby Beare, and Margaret Real motored to Cobourg with Marie Cookrnan on Sat. to watch Port Perry win the baseball tourn- ament. Sister Mabel and husband Al Rowland, Ross and Lil Stone visited recently with the Beares. Congratulations to Mark and Debbie Roun- dell on the birth of their daughter last week. Professor McCready visited his sister at Crystal Lake one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Lunney of Whitby called on Olive McMillan recently. Don't forget your pies ladies on Friday. They will be all al and appreciated. Blackstock drivers come face-to-face Two Blackstock resi- dents found themselves bumper to bumper in an accident July 21. A 1983 Dodge driven by Anna Marrotte was headed southbound on Scugog Street, just mak- ing a turn into the post office when it collided with a 1984 Chevrolet driven by Terry Step- henson. The accident happen- ed at 11:25 a.m., causing $2,400 damage. Ms. Marrotte was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
