BRS ANIA rm eS FAA URES id 85 =e ne be a Lindsay pins 7-3 loss on Port Legion On Wednesday night, at the local diamond, Port Perry Legion hosted Lindsay Mer- chants and were defeated 7-3 in a lack- lustre performance before the home crowd. Lindsay jumpted to a quick 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and Port tied it in the 6th inning on hits by Dave Dickson, Todd Wilbur and Lawrie Williams. In the 7th inn- ing Lindsay scored 3 times and followed with 3 more in the 8th inning. The Legion team re- sounded with 2 runs in their half of the 8th inn- ing, but fell short by 4 runs. Starting pitcher Lawrie Williams pitched until the 7th inning, before being relieved by John Annis. Port scat- tered 10 hits in the last with Ron Redman and Tim Thompson getting 2 hits each with singles go- ing to Rick Evans, Dave Dickson, Todd Wilbur, Bob Evans, Lawrie Williams and Brian Smith. The following night, Port Legion paid a return visit to Lindsay, nipping the home team 5-4 on a 2- out 9th inning, RBI single by Rick Evans. Again Lindsay jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the Ist inning, but Port replied with 4 runs in the 2nd inning. After 2 men were out, the rally started when Doug Scott and Tim Thompson singled and advanced on a passed ball. Bill Bridge walked to load the bases and Ron Redman doubl- ed to bring in 2 runs, followed by Rick Evans double to score 2 more. Lindsay rallied in the 3rd inning to score 3 runs and tie the game 44. Pitcher John Annis went all the way for Port allowing 7 hits while striking out 16 batters. Port winning run hap- pened with 1 out, Tim Thompson singled, Bill Bridge sacrificed him to 2nd base, Ron Redman was intentional, walk- ed (4 hits in 2games) and then Rick Evans delivered a game winn- ing base hit to right field. This week in league play, Port Legion travels to Whitby for a Tuesday night encounter and returns home Wednes- day night to face the Oshawa Juniors. This weekend the Legion squad travels to Ottawa to compete in an In- termediate 'A' Tourna- ment to help sharpen the players at the OASA. Playoffs are coming up in August. For the Kinsmen, there was an unassisted double play and a triple by Art Schryburt. Kirk Swain had a home run with runs in by Dana Campbell, Michelle Cummings and Brad Morton. Pitcher, Chris Beacock had 5 strike- outs. For Lishmans, David Weir hit a home- run, a triple and a single. Chris Bryant hit 3 homeruns with another Robert McEachern. Bobby Crawford had some excellent fielding for Greenbank. The excitement was high in Seagrave with a 25-22 win for the home team over Square Boy Pizza. In Nestleton, Don Frew and Sons defeated Thompson's Village Market 22-6. For Thompson's, Darren Leach hit a home run with a triple by Kevin Ellis. Jason Cliff made a good pop-fly catch at first base.
