James Mackie James Mackie passed away suddenly on Sat- urday afternoon July 14th, 1984 at 5 p.m. as a result of a heart attack while haying. On June 20th, the deceased observed his 77th birth- day. Mr. Mackie started his farming operation some 50 years ago in Lotus and augmented his farm income as an artisan both as a black- smith and at wood- working at which he had a definite aptitude. He married the late Mildred Stenson and together through hard work and perseverance purchased two farms and successfully farmed same until Jim's death. Mrs. Mackie predeceas- ed her husband by approximately 11 years. They also raised two adopted sons, Larry and Joseph, who were left homeless at the death of their mother, Jim's sister, Georgina Field- ing. Jimmy, as he was known to his friends far and wide, was deeply respected by his peers for his honesty and integrity, his tireless energy and persever- ance. A thrifty Scot, he led a Spartan existance, despised laziness and ostentation in others, but admired those who were successful through their own ingenuity and personal endeavours. Politically, Mr. Mackie was an ardent supporter of the Liberal regime. Despite a lack of much formal education, he was an avid reader and was knowledgeable and con- versant in almost any subject. He was a helpful neighbour and his assistance was always available when a friend needed a hand. The funeral service was conducted on Tues- day, July 14th at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry with Rev. Clarke of Port Perry providing a comforting message to the bereaved. Interment followed at the family plot at the Yelverton United Church Cemetery with refresh- ments served following the service at the Yelverton United Church basement by the UCW Ladies. The Bearers were all neighbours - Messrs. David Foote, Al Quinn, Jimmy Gray, Jimmy Welsh, Floyd Stenson and Harvey Malcolm. Left to mourn Mr. Mackie's passing are his two sons - Larry and Mary and their 3 sons of Blackstock; Joseph and Betty and their 2 sons and 1 daughter of Lotus and 1 brother, John Mackie of Lindsay as well as numerous nephews. He was pre- deceased by one sister, Georgina and a brother Gordon. Ruth Proutt It was with a sense of grief and personal loss that the Nestleton Com- munity greeted the sad news of the death of a popular resident in the person of Miss Ruth Pro- >) A N --- vp CEECECELELEEEEEEES EEEE CEEEECECCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEE L-- SEED & 2Y yr « utt in her 87th year. She had been in ill health and was a patient in Port Perry Community Hospital for a few weeks prior to her death. Ruth was born and liv- ed her whole life in Cart- wright Township -- the beloved daughter of John and Emma Proutt - sister of Marie Neal and Ivan Proutt both predeceased. Dear aunt of Donald and Grace Proutt, Nestleton; Beth and John Buchan, Carolyn and Douglas of Lindsay, and John and Mary Proutt, Susan and David of Whitby, and a host of other relatives. She was educated at Caesarea Public School, S.S. No. 7, and later learned the dressmaking trade from her Aunt Jen- ny Proutt. A good sewer - she enjoyed making clothes for her friends from far and near. As well- her flowers and vegetable garden were a source of pleasure to her. She was interested in her home, church and com- munity, and was a member of the Nestleton Presbyterian Church and a life member of Nestleton Women's Institute. To know Ruth was to love and respect her. She was the epitome of sincerity- truth- and Christian faith. A kind neighbour- she welcom- ed folks with a ready smile- a pleasant greeting- a person so many could call a true friend. Her pattern of good living is an example for others to follow and look up to. Her passing left an aching void in the hearts and minds of all her devoted friends and loved ones. "FRIEND- a simple word- of no great worth to measure. A friend- a simple phrase- but what a priceless treasure." The Rev. Fred Swann officiated at the Funeral Service held on Satur- day, June 9, 2:00 p.m. at the McDermott- Panabaker Funeral Chapel. Pall bearers were: Victor Malcolm, Lloyd" Hunter, Merrill Van Camp, Ralph Malcolm, Lee Shaw and Wayne Malcolm. Many beautiful tributes were received in her memory and memorial donations were made to the Port Perry Community Hospital.
