August 21, 1984 Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock After a leisurely three week vacation it's great to be back writing this column once again for the folks in Seagrave. I trust everyone has been enjoying the lovely warm summer we've been blessed with this year. There's only one thing wrong with summer -- it's never long enough! To many things to do and places to go in too short a time span. Following a valiant struggle with Cancer for the last couple of years, Dorothy Massell lost the battle with this dread disease and slipped away peacefully at the Com- munity Memorial Hospital last Wednesday evening. During the years that this kind and gentle woman lived in our village, she gained a host of friends who ad- mired her for her generosity and pleasant manner. Her greatest fans were the young ball players in the village MIKE & CHRIS ALLEN ALUMINUM 985-3747 We are pleased to announce the opening of our new shop in the Reach Industrial Park, located one mile west of Scugog Arena. CAULKING All Colours PER TUBE who had a lot of love and respect for Dorothy and Gloria Wallace. These two ladies supported and sponsored a good many ball teams during their term at the Store and the kids and their parents will be a long time forgetting the dinners for the team at Dixie Lee or MacDonalds, or a cold can of coke after the game! A very thoughtful and generous gesture that came as no surprise if you knew either of these gals. On behalf of the com- munity, I extend our deepest sympathy to her family and to her friend Gloria Wallace. Knowing her made all of our lives a little bit richer. Well, it looks like it's nearing_the time when frazzled moms go off in search of school clothes and supplies in readiness for September 4th, when thousands of kids return to the classroom and father's left with nothing but moths in his wallet. It's almost as hard on the cash reserves as Christmas shopping is - right fellas! Congratulations to the Miller's on the arrival of their first child, a hand- some baby boy, last week at the Oshawa General Hospital. A future member of a Seagrave ball team? Congratulations are - also in store for Grandpa and Grandma Barr on the arrival of another lit- tle grandson. Cameron James Barr will be tak- ing up residence at the home of Cecylia and Earle Barr with of -course, the occasional visit at Bill and Shirley's. Belated happy birth- day greetings to Mrs. Myrtie Stone who celebrated her 92nd bir- thday on August 4th and she still manages to look twenty years younger. On August 4th, friends and relatives gathered at the Oddfellows Hall in Port Perry to honour Ken and Eleanor Stur- man on the occasion of - their 25th wedding an- niversary. A very happy and memorable occasion to be sure. Best wishes for many more years! A couple of weeks earlier, July 21st, to be exact, many of the same folks were at the same hall for another happy occasion in the Sturman family -- the marriage reception of daughter Carol to Mr. John Col- Players will miss storekeeper eman, following a beautiful wedding at the Seagrave United Church. Best wishes to this happy young couple as they em- bark on a very exciting journey through life. Seagrave residents wish to extend their con- dolences to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Gladys Butt who passed away after a lengthy illness earlier this month. The Butt family resided on the farm recently vacated by Keith and Dianne Puckrin for many years and as a result developed friendships with. many area residents. = Happy birthday to Ethan 'Lavereau who reached his 12th birthday last week! Hope you had a super day, Ethan. Sorry to hear Paul Wannamaker -and Lee Beacock had to spend a few days of their holidays recovering from surgery, but both appear to be on the mend and ready to start high school in a couple of weeks.
