SER a | Trucker loses fight with Township (From page 1) violations of the by- laws, the Township policy is not to pro- secute unless there are complaints from citizens. And this was what happened in the Green- wood case, said Mr. Cuddie. "If Mr. Greenwood or anybody else wants to file formal complaints with the Township about other (alleged) viola- tions of trucks in drive- ways, we will start legal action', he said. Mr. Greenwood admits the complaints against his truck were lodged by a neighbour, and that he has had other "misunderstand- ings" with the neigh- bour on unrelated matters. He says on the first charge he pleaded guilty and was fined $25. He decided to fight a second charge and was found innocent when a justice of the peace ruled the no-parking section of the Township by-law was ambiguous. It was this decision by the justice of the peace that the Township appealed to a higher court, and won last Friday. Mr. Greenwood said he has tried to find a suitable place to park his tractor and trailer away from his home, but the rent was too high. And he says that with an investment of close to $100,000 in the track and trailer, he doesn't want to park it "any old place" out of fear of theft or vandalism. Angry and upset, Mr. Greenwood said he's not sure what he's going to do in the future. Mr. Cuddie said that if Mr. Greenwood con- tinues to park the tract- or in the driveway and the Township receives formal complaints the municipality will have no choice but to prose- cute again. And the fine for a conviction could br considerably steeper than $100. Cash reward for stolen tractor A cash reward is being offered for any information leading to the recovery of a John Deere tractor and round baler apparently stolen from a field beside Highway 7A east of Port Perry last week. The reward is being put up by Wells Pehler- mann, owner of the machinery which is valued at about $25,000. Mr. Pehlermann, who does custom'baling says he may be out of business unless the machinery is found. He told the Star he left the machinery August 27 in a field on the west side of Highway 7A between the Blackstock and Caesarea cut-off roads. When he return- @e Hearing , c Aid (entre ¢f Port Perry ed a couple of days later to work the fields again, the equipment was gone. Mr. Pehlermann says it is not unusual for farmers to leave machinery in the fields overnight. The tractor is des- cribed as a 1972 John Deere 2120, 60 H.P. and green in colour. The side screens are missing and it has no lights. The brand new round baler, also a John Deere model, turns out 1400 pound bales. It was purchased just two weeks ago and is valued at $15,500.
