We, your new 'team' would like to give a word of welcome to begin the year. Hi. I'm Julie Midgely. Welcome back to every- one. Seniors, I hope you all can afford all the books and still have some cash left over for the weekend. Best of luck to all and have a great year. Hi! I'm Michele Lucyk. I'd like to give a special welcome. to the Grade nines and our new teachers. I hope that your first year at PPHS is a very enjoy- able and successful year! Good luck! Next week we will get to know our new teachers better, and investigate that wonderful event initia- tion! Hi! I'm Christine Bauer. School has start- ed once more and every- thing starts happening this week. On Sept. 10 Activity cards went on sale, as did shorts and socks, opening our First Fundraising event this year. On Friday, Sept. 14, our lunches will digest much easier because we will have music in the cafeteria. No dancing on the tables, please! Sept. 21 brings the first dance of the school year, the Initiation Dance. The Entertainers will be the group performing. School pictures will be taken the following week on Sept. 26, so don't forget to bring a comb to school, kids! Well, students, we're back to the old grind so why not get involved in your students council and enlighten your life! 'I'm Julie Ashton saying hello and letting you know this year's student council is "well under- way planning a very entertaining year for everyone. The student Involvement Committee is busy planning that dreaded initiation for all grade nines. For all those students who refused to go to school last Friday, you missed a fantastic sock hop and 'Red and White Day'. This is Dawn Korbak reporting intramural sports. Athletics are underway and it looks as if it's going to be a great year. The first week of school saw the commencement of many activities for all interested students. Turnouts for both Jr. and Sr. boys volleyball were outstanding. The boys soccer team held Jts first tryout last week - as well. The girls basketball and field hockey teams could prove to be winners again this year. Coaches are also on the lookout for any cress country runners, tennis and golf players. The badminton club begins next week and for all those inter- ested in just a little fun and exercise, the first intramural sport will be beachball volleyball. Good luck to all aspiring athletes. To close, this is Diane Coates saying 'Hi'. I'm going to be your PPHS News team welcomes another school music liaison for this school year. Mr. White and Mr. Chellew will be organizing our 250 music students into various groups and ensembles this year. Regular rehearsals for the Concert Band, Inter- mediate Band, Senior Wind Ensemble, jazz choir, legitimate choir, and the two stage bands will begin in the next few weeks. Auditions start this week - so if year you're interested in being a part of one of these groups -- start practising! See you in next week's Star for more High news. She met with some Institute members meeting in London and extended greetings from our Canadian Women's Institute. Mrs. Anne Wills of Scarborough spent Sun- day with her sister, Helen and Don McKean. The Orange Lodge of Port Perry gave a $25.00 award to the best quilt at Uxbridge Fair and I was lucky enough to be the winner. Many thanks. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Roy Till and family in the loss of a loving husband and father. Mr. and Mrs. Toni Minten visited their son, Martin and his wife at Keswick on Sunday and went on a boat trip.
