Sandra's extensive treatment, her special day to day needs and the move to a new home near Blackstock have all hit the family hard financially. Maggie Flaro, a friend of Sandra's from Oshawa has organized -the Sandra Stronge Ray of Hope Fund, and she told the Star that anyone who might want to help the family can contact her at 725-4276. The Ray of Hope will be holding a garage and bake sale this Saturday, Sept. 15 at Trinity Church, 900 King St. East in Oshawa, and Mrs. Flaro said crafts, baked goods, household items or anything else would be most welcome. The family also needs help with the reno- vations, plumbing and re-wiring of the house near Blackstock, and anyone who would like to help can contact Ruth Hunt at, 579-0058 in Oshawa. Mrs. Stronge said that while the family is hoping the clean country air will prove beneficial to her daughter, it will likely 'be Christmas at least before they notice if there is any improve- ment. Right now I'd just like to be able to see her spend a few minutes each day outside. That would be a start', said Mrs. Stronge. Finally, on April 20, 1985, the Music Hall will play host to Sylvia Tyson and the Great Speckled Bird. Tyson, songwriter, performer and television star, is a well-known '"'Name" in both Canada and inter- nationally. She has tour- ed Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan as well as having hosted her own series, "Country in My Soul" on C.B.C. T.V. Tyson is known for her wide range of styles and material and switches easily from country to blues, from cabaret to folk. Tickets go on sale the first week of September.
