Johnston led off the inning for Greenbank with a line drive double to right centre field, and Gambler clean up hitter Don Beaton coming to the plate. Then a wild pitch got past the Prince Albert catcher with Hugh John- ston taking off for third. Johnston and the Prince Albert shortstop and the ball all arrived at third base at approximately the same time and the ball rolled into the outfield which allowed Johnston to come home with the winning run. A tough loss for the Prince Albert team and a great "come from behind" win for the Greenbank squad. Ken Goreski went all the way to pick up the victory. Both Goreski and losing pitcher, Ken Irvine pitched nineteen innings in the Sunday afternoon, Monday night games. The back to back games were due to two rainout games' during the week. A hilite of the game for Greenbank was the continued fine play of Greg Rodd at first base, filling in for Gambler first sacker Trevor Till who is playing hockey with the new Whitby "Lawmen" team. Claremont With the thoughts of the Haugen series still fresh in their heads, the Gamblers had to head for Claremont the next night to start the league final series with Clare- mont Legion. Roland Osske started on the Greenbank mound and he pitched a masterful two hitter as the Gamblers edged the Legion team by a 2-1 score. Once again they had to come from behind in the late innings as Claremont carried a one run lead into the fifth inning when Trevor Till hit safely and came around with the tying run on catcher Bill Carruthers throwing error. In the sixth inning Steve Foster hit safely after two were out. Roddy Real came in to run for Foster and stole second base. Then Hugh Johnston cashed the winning run with a solid single up the middle. Early in the game the Claremont outfield saved a run when they ran down Brian Till's hard smash to left centre to hold him to a double. Then Claremont returned to Greenbank Park on Thursday night for the second game of the series with Ken Goreski and Darryl Norton the opposing pitchers. And for the second straight game at Green- bank the contest went into extra innings before Don Beaton's two run homer gave the Gam- blers a 3-2 ten inning victory. This time neither team had scored after the regulation seven innings but Claremont scored in the top of the eighth when Larry Pilkey was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second, stole third and scored on an infield fielders choice play. Again with their backs to the wall the Gamblers tied the score on an infield error, a base on balls and a "Texas League" single. In the top of the tenth inning Claremont took the lead again with solid back to back hits by Pilkey and Dave Mc- Kenzie and a 2-1 lead with only three batters to retire. However, the Gam- blers refused to quit and Neil Rodd led off the bottom of the tenth inning by being hit by a Norton fast ball. Steve Foster's sacrifice bunt saw Rodd thrown out at second base on a close play. Hugh Johnston grounded out to first base for the second out with Foster moving to second. Gambler clean up batters Don Beaton came to the plate and with the count 2 balls, 2 strikes he lined the pitch over the centre field fence for a two run homer and a dramatic 3-2 Greenbank win. The third game in this exciting series was played Monday night at Greenbank Park with the fourth game in Claremont and the fifth in Greenbank WINTER BOAT STORAGE Covered Slips Available For 14 - 32 ft.
